Wagyu Burgers and Angus Dogs after the 4Th of July Parade

edited July 2015 in EggHead Forum

Went to the McKinney 4th of July parade this morning to watch Londyn, our grand daughter perform. She is "Woody" in the yellow shirt.

So we then invited the family over for some burgers and dog. Put the BGE popup over the front of the patio for a little shade from the Texas sun until the pavilion gets built.

Picked up some Wagyu 80/20 and Angus hot dogs from Local Yocal in downtown McKinney this morning, (We were just across from them watching the parade)

Ladies are working on all of the fixn's while the griddle is warming up.

Loaded up the griddle with the patties and dogs.

When those were about done toasted the buns.

Steamed the cheese on the burgers.

Set at the spread and rang the dinner bell.

Now for a swim and adult beverages

!!!Happy Birthday America!!!

It looks like a great time and some awesome grub my friend. Glad that you and your family had a safe and happy 4th. My wife loves that BGE pop up canopy. May I ask where you purchased it? Again, everything looks spectacular brother.

@SGH Scottie thanks, we had a blast. I will do both the wagyu beef and angus dogs again. They harvest from their own herd. So both were as fresh as could be.

We actually used that pop up at the Texas Eggfest. Once it was over we could buy it. And did. It was just right place at the right time. Looking back I wish I would have got two of them.

Looks like I need to get one of them griddles.  I'm too intimidated to open the blackstone griddle thread.  The unread post count crashes my computer.  Looks like a good time, congrats and happy 4th.

@cazzy I got two of them. The other is a bit longer. I like it. Being new to this type of cooking I am learning on the fly. I will put the press on and get it hot so what ever I use it on will start cooking on both top and bottom. Work great on the angus dogs as they were uncooked to start with. Help with the wagyu burgers to get started on mating to the surface so the crust will build.

I will say those were the best damn burgers I have ever cooked at home.

I remember I did not much like the taste of the wagyu briskets at brisket camp last September. They were kind of bland compared to the select. The choice @SGH had cooked I thought was the one of best as far as beef flavor and texture.

Now this 80/20 wagyu is my goto beef for burgers.

Next on my list is to perfect the best hot ham and cheese on rye. One of my favs as far as a grilled sandwich.

Great info!  I think I am going to get the rectangular and the round one.  Didn't like the Wagyu briskets...weird.  I've had two so far and they both have been pretty awesome.

Yeah, I'm learning on the fly too and need to get used to the speed.  Better prep as everything goes so fast.  Having fun with it though and it's a great addition to my cooking arsenal.

I'll prolly do the "Chef" grilled cheese next.

Hah, that is pretty normal for me.  The kids normally don't wake up till after 9am so it feeds my inner night owl.

Brother this shows that everyone has different tastes and preferences. My wife and daughter both prefer the taste of choice when cooked properly over Waygu. I myself prefer Waygu. This is why select and choice still show up at comps even in this Prime and Waygu craze era. Waygu has to much of a pronounced taste for some folks that have spent their entire life eating select and choice. It seems a lot like comparing ribeye to t-bone. Everyone has their particular preference. For the record, I'm happy eating any of them when cooked to perfection. But given a choice I will go with Waygu every time.  I really like the strong overtone that it has.
