Just bought a large BGE and in assembling it, I noticed some pitting/chipping on the outside of the fire box and inside of the lid, Pictures below. Anything to be concerned about? Should I return it or carry on with assembly?

It's been a long time since my eggs were new, however I don't recall seeing anything like your pictures.
In my mind defects like that may one day be where a crack originates. However I have never known of a dome cracking. Others may have a different opinion.
I think it would be a warranty covered part if it did eventually crack. -
I would likely email pics to the dealer just to get on record. They may say bring it back.

The dome worries me more than the fire box. If a fire box cracks, just fill out the paperwork for the warranty. If the dome has an issue, the dealer (distributor and BGE) want a picture. I would show this to the dealer and get their opinion. If you aren't satisfied, email bruce@biggreenegg.com and pose the question to him

The dome pitting has intensified after my first cook (or maybe it's just more obvious). What are those scratch marks?

Looks like something was in the press when the dome was shaped. Have you shown your dealer?

I had a similar problem with my XL when it was new. Not as bad as yours, just a few pit marks in the dome. You should ask for an exchange from your dealer. Or contact BGE support.

It's good to be proactive, but I would have just used it until there was mechanical failure. The warranty is lifetime on the dome.
