Drip pan for XLBGE?

I'm brand new to BGE and just got an XL. For long, slow cooks, what do you recommend for a drip pan? I've seen a deep dish pizza pan used for a smaller kamado, but haven't seen one big enough for an XL. Is it recommended to add spacers between the platesetter and the drip pan to allow some airflow? Are foil balls sufficient, or is there a better solution? Thanks for your help!

    I use a large disposable aluminum pan over foil balls on my XL. If it's too tall for the grate to set, just mash it down.

    Spacers as pretty important IMO. I use copper plumbing tees but the rolled up foil balls work too.

    Well, "spa-Peggy" is kind of like spaghetti. I'm not sure what Peggy does different, if anything. But it's the one dish she's kind of made her own.

    Ceramic grill store has round drip pans that are sized for the XL with maybe a 3/4" lip.  I use that most of the time, but if it's a cook that's going to generate lots of drippings, I'll either use a large foil pan like described by @SmokingPiney or use two of the half-size foil pans side by side.

    I'm done buying foil pans. I'm buying a BGE square drip-pan that is dishwasher safe for my Large. I'll be ahead of the game with my 5th butt or rib cook.

    I hear you @THEBuckeye, but we use them frequently enough for food that we buy in bulk at Sam's and when done with food, I rinse out and put in another pile to use as a drip pan, so they're all second use, sometimes more if not to decroded after a cook.

    Another thing you can do is wrap an old cookie sheet in tin foil. The drip pan from CGS is nice though, nice lip so the drippings dont overflow.

    I have done like @SmokingPiney, said or just wrap the plate setter in foil and go for it.  I usually do a hot cook after a low & slow so it will burn off the fat in the lump.  I don't get to many drippings from ribs though that I have found in my XL.  Spacer is a must if you are using a drip pan.

    Baking pan wrapped in tin foil.  I used BGE feet as spacers between the plate setter and pan

    You don't wait the drippings to boil/burn. Will give you some nasty smoke.

    I use a large round disposable aluminum serving tray, the edge is about 1.5cm high, and I place it on Aluminum foil balls. Works great, used it for everything, holds all the drippings, and if needed to save, bends nicely to pour.

    I used JB Weld to seal up the drain hole.  I've been using it over a year and have never had a problem.

    dldawes1, that's a great idea. Thanks! I just went to my local Lowes and they had the 20" pan on clearance for $1.20. It may be a hair small for my XL, but not much.

  • I use a lipped baking sheet I steal from the wife's oven. I set it on the 3 little green feet that came with my xl.

    @ $1.20...you could buy them and make 2000% profit !!!!  Sell the finished product at $24 each !!!!

    Mine is 20" diameter and it is perfect for my XL.
