Temperature on BGE vs. Maverick Probes

Still breaking in my new egg, and trying to figure out how everything works.
This weekend I was cooking up ribs and chicken and I used my new Maverick probes to help out. I noticed that the Maverick Probe at grill level was between 50 and 100 degrees lower than the installed temp guage in by BGE. The Maverick meat probe seemed quite accurate, however, being within 5 degrees of my quick-read probe. Thinking about it, my cooks that I did without the Maverick, things seemed to take longer than expected.
Is it reasonable that the temp gauge installed with the BGE is that far off?

It's possible. You should remove the temp gauge from your egg and test it in a pot of boiling water to see if it's properly calibrated.
Its possible (likely even) that the dome temp and the grid temp on a maverick will be slightly off from each other at the beginning of a long smoke then gradually even out over time, however 50-100 degree difference is much bigger than anything I've ever experienced. -
It might be, it is easy to take off that clip and calibrate the dome thermo in boiling water.
Also, don't worry about using that clip, the thermo won't fall out, and it lets you spin the thermometer so your desired temp is at 12:00.LBGE

Calibrate the dome thermo, boiling water and twist the nut on the back if not reading 212F. The Mav at grid will read 30-50 lower than the dome on a stable egg for indirect cooks. Make sure the grid probe is not exposed to direct IR from burn lump. On long cooks grid and dome will get closed together. Suggest you not use the Mav for direct cooks.Delta B.C. - Whiskey and steak, because no good story ever started with someone having a salad!
