ere Columbia, SC --- LBGE 2011 -- MINI BGE 2013 -
I have a Large and wanted a mini. When the mini-max was announced, I wanted that like most others. But I found a new mini for $200, from a dealer, unused, don't know why it was cheap, so I jumped on it. I usually only cook for 1 or 2, but seem to use my large almost exclusively. I am trying to make an effort to use the mini more this summer though. I probably have had the mini about a year, but only have used it maybe 5-6 times (including tonight). All that being said, if I was looking for a 2nd Egg, I would probably prefer to either small or MM, if I was paying list price between the mini, MM, or small.Large BGE, Mini BGEMorgantown, PA

@ads75 - if there any one reason that deters you from using the mini? I have a large and small combo and use them both a bunch. I'm thinking protein on the mini and sides/veggies on the small for the 2 of us.ads75 said:I have a Large and wanted a mini. When the mini-max was announced, I wanted that like most others. I'd get a mini max or another small. A little bit more cash buys you a lot more versatility.

A couple reasons why I think I use may Large more than the mini...more surface area, proteins and veggies get cooked at the same time. Or the veggies while the protein rests. I want the extra area to cook leftovers for lunch. Also, I am familiar with the large. I also have the woo and adjustable rug for the large.
Anothet reason may just be me being cheap. I have the mini set up right now on an Egg Carten. So it's only about knee high to cook on. I am looking into getting a table for it, and am considering a custom table for both.

@ads75 - that makes perfect sense to me. Thank you for the explanation-----------------------------------------analyze adapt overcome2008 -Large BGE. 2013- Small BGE and 2015 - Mini. Henderson, Ky.

With what you are wanting to do unless you are cooking your proteins and veggies at extremely different temps and need to light two cooking vessels a lot is get a medium. I have a large medium and small and that has been ideal for me. Small does lunches and trip cooking. Medium is my everyday dinner cooker. Large does my smoking and entertaining meals.I raise my kids, cook and golf. When work gets in the way I'm pissed, I'm pissed off 48 weeks a year.Inbetween Iowa and Colorado, not close to anything remotely entertaining outside of football season.

That's what I kept telling myself. I like the idea of cooking once and eating for several days without having to cook again. Even though the meat's not as good. Once I realized how quick and easy a mini cook can be, I rather preferred a fresh cooked chicken breast to a cold one from the fridge. When cooking for one or two, you can fit enough on there to have a hot evening meal and still have some leftover for lunch.ads75 said:

And I don't really care where vegetables are cooked. They're good on the egg or stove.I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

@mickey - now that you have the MM (same cooking area as my small) which are you using the most between the MM & the mini?-----------------------------------------analyze adapt overcome2008 -Large BGE. 2013- Small BGE and 2015 - Mini. Henderson, Ky.

At first getting the MM it was all MM.Mattman3969 said:@mickey - now that you have the MM (same cooking area as my small) which are you using the most between the MM & the mini?
But after about a year it's more Mini.
If its a pound of hamburger (3 burgers) or two 10oz strips or the like in chops I find the Mini faster. Both have High Q's so they are both fast, the Mini is just faster. I am retired so speed is not a problem.
I am using the Mini the most. Followed by the MM and then the two Larges.
Only the two of us for most cooks.
The Mini (in the Carten) will fit in the back of my Tacoma with with the flat topper where the Mini-Max sets too high to close lid. Plus the Mini-Max is just too heavy for me to carry by myself.
If doing it all over I would just have the Mini, but what the hell....Salado TX & 30A FL: Egg Family: 3 Large and a very well used Mini, added a Mini Max when they came out (I'm good for now). Just given a Mini to add to the herd. -
