With apologies I hijacked a thread somewhere introducing myself but now I think I have it figured out! Purchased an XL BGE about a week ago just north of Austin. Then the rains started! I think my purchase ended the 10 year drought because its been raining ever since. Fended off mosquitoes to cook some ribs, burgers and excellent rib eyes last night. Can't tell ya'll how much I've learned so far just by reading and searching techniques. Had the weber kettle dialed in for Franklin style pulled pork and brisket after several years of trial and error, so the new BGE will need an extended honeymoon..Purchased the stainless topper for it and works like a charm, just got the table setter for the table I'm building. As a cabinet builder and granite guy I wanted to go all out but after cooking on it twice I realize a need a Minimax for the travel trailer so budget rules! I'll try to help out in the table building and granite areas as i can and look forward to lots of harassment and pictures..

Welcome.

First, Welcome!!!
You might want to use a round extra large aluminum cheap serving platter from Michael's etc. to use as a drip pan. After a while those drippings will start imparting an acrid taste especially when you start doing nuclear cooks like pizza or steaks. To clean it, turn it over the legs down, fill up the firebox and open it up (no cap, bottom vent full open) and do a clean burn to remove the drippings you have there so far....
XL owner for 5yrs now and LOVE it. Did a whole roaster chicken over the weekend. -

Welcome. +1 with what @onedbguru about the drip pan. Gotta show your plate setter some love. I don't go as far as wrapping in foil, but I use a drip pan for the gooey drippy stuff. I'd wait a bit on cooking off the crud on your PS.Steven

Welcome aboard and enjoy the journey. And regarding the drip pan, make sure you elevate it off the platesetter to preclude burning the drippings. (balls of foil, washers , pennies etc to get the air gap.)Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period.
