My first attempt at ribs (pics)

I have had my eggs for over two years, and I have never cooked ribs! I don't know what I was waiting on.

I purchased 3 racks of baby backs. I used 4 apple chunks and some cherry chips for smoke. I put my platesetter in legs up and used a drip pan filled with apple juice.

I got my fire dialed in at around 230 dome. I spritzed them every hour after the first hour with a 50/50 mixture of apple juice and apple cider vinegar.

This is when I first put them on the egg.

This was after I spritzed at the end of hour 1.

This was the end of hour 2.

This was at the end of hour 3

This was at the end of hour 5.

This is my egging setup.

Overall we enjoyed the ribs very much. I tried to get a plated pic, but it didn't turn out. Some of the ribs that were near of the edge of the cooking grid were a tad to dry, but the rest of them were very good.

My kids loved them! I am ready to try them again.

Had to throw in a pic of your setup, didn't you.  Always makes me jealous.  Glad you got it done and they were good.

Nicely Done! I figured you'd get good results even if it was your first time. Now top it on your next try!

Looks great! Next time, cut them in half (making six halves) and put them in a rib rack. Keeps them over the plate setter.

    Great looking cook!
As a suggestion, try some St Louis style spare ribs.
    They're great, too!

This was the first pic with both of my new tables. I love the setup. The tv is stored in the table. It is so nice to hang out and stream. My wife was laying out in the sun, and my daughter was in the pool. My son was playing golf. Long story short we all had a good day.

I used salt, pepper, and seasoning salt. My wife doesn't like any of the commercial rubs I have tried on anything. The only thing she likes is a seasoning salt the we get from the grocery store. I used that on the last butt I cooked, and it turned out great. I think next time I am going use Bad Byrons Butt Rubb on the ribs.

Awesome looking ribs and a beautiful setup you have there. If you have never cooked ribs before, then the only conclusion that I come to is that you are a natural rib cooking machine. Awesome job   Enjoy.

Brother you more than earned it. There is nothing wrong with those ribs. You really should post more often. No question of it.

I honestly don't know. I planned on cooking them two years ago. My wife and kids want steak, chicken, and hamburgers all the time it seems.

Don't sweat the seasoning too much.  The only two things that standout to me on ribs are sweet and heat.  Most rubs to me taste the same on ribs by the time they've been smoking for hours.

Agree with @Legume I totally made up on the spot the seasoning on the ones I cooked yesterday. Just dug into the spice cabinet. They were as good as the ones I cook with commercial rub.

Well, that seems that in that timeframe TWO fathers days would have passed, so you could have declared it " rib day" so blaming your family is really weak.

John. Sweet set-up!  Ribs are one of our many favorites. In particular beef ribs but, I'm a sucker for baby backs or St Louis cut ribs.  I'm actually really truly surprised this is the first ribs you've done.
