Planning to use it tonight in conjunction with my SmokeWare neck so it won't fall off. I'd like to cook at say 300 to 325 dome so I am thinking I will set the dial at 3. That work???

Ron, I don't have one, but did read advice from someone: try to get your temp set at target, and at 3 for you, that sounds about right. then adjust the knob, tweaking the position until the flapper just closes. That should do it.

TTT still a virgin in the box! Idiot Captain (Me) let egg get WAY too hot during phone call. No way I could bring that 600º egg down soon enough to risk the red jolly roger rubber thingee! LOL

Guess we will have to keep waiting for the next opportunity. Btw, for those of us with the daisy wheel, will this TTT fit directly on the egg dome top ?

Your a tease Ron. I wanted to see this dohickey in operation. Now I have to wait longer.They don’t want a population of citizens capable of critical thinking. What makes this gadget better than setting up (dialing in) the Smokeware or DFMT? I watched their YouTube promo and don't see anything automatic about it. Am I missing something here?

@NPHuskerFL
The little flapper is on some sort of spring which opens/closes as temp changes. It heats up flapper closes cools down flapper opens.

@Ozzie_Isaac sounds almost like an old style mechanical bimetallic thermostat using temp to constrict or relax a spring.LBGE 2013 & MM 2014Die Hard HUSKER & BRONCO FANFlying Low & Slow in "Da Burg" FL

That's because it IS. Preload of the 'knob' sets the threshold temp.
Easy peasy…..and it should be reasonably repeatable. -

Sounds like it would be easier to use then the daisy wheel. I will be interested to see Ron's review and how well it held temp.XL, WSM, Coleman Road Trip Gas GrillKansas City, Mo.

In addition to temperature stability, there's the question of securing the TTT in place when opening the Egg."Too bad all the people who know how to run the country are busy driving cabs and barbecuing." - George Burns -

but does it actually regulate your temperature and how accurate is it?Joe - I'm a reformed gasser-holic aka 4Runner Columbia, SC Wonderful BGE Resource Site: http://www.nakedwhiz.com/ceramicfaq.htm and http://www.nibblemethis.com/ and http://playingwithfireandsmoke.blogspot.com/2006/02/recipes.html

One Egger, @WOwens, says that it does work and is a good product.We're just waiting for @RRP to work his trial into his schedule and confirm.
Or deny.
Maybe in a coupla weeks . . . ?

Here's the report from bettysnephew a while back:bettysnephew Posts: 878I have used mine twice now so have a little experience with it. Yes it does close the flap valve (counterclockwise) as the temperature increases and vice versa as temperature falls. What I did was start the Egg and watch the thermometer until it got close to the temp I wanted. I then rotated the knob ccw to pretty much close the flapper. I let it stabilize for a bit and watched what the temp was showing and made minor adjustments to get it where I wanted it. You will see the flapper opening and closing on its own as gusts of wind come up or subside. It seems to be easy to control at 250-275°. When I tried to go lower the coals seemed to extinguish, but my XL really never seemed to run well at 225 before so not a big surprise. Since 250-275 works well for most of my cooks on the XL I am pleased with its' operation. I have yet to try it on my medium but it may work better at 225 as the M will run there a bit better than the XL.See der Rabbits, Iowa

pretty cool.....I'm interested how accurate it stays over time and especially in the rain. I'm assuming the rain would cool the TTT down giving it a false reading of the temp in the Egg and then overshoot your target. Maybe a simple dial adjustment to account for various weather conditions is a quick fix. Don't know. Still a pretty cool and simple gadget. I got to use mine on the medium the other night for a batch of chicken thighs indirect. Set it for 350° and I saw little to no fluctuation in temperature although as usual it was in a gusty area. The little flap did its' thing and kept the temp very stable. On the Med. to get 350° the set point was with 6 on the dial at 12 o'clock. YMMV The thighs were excellent BTW. I like the way once set little attention is required to maintain the temp.A poor widows son.
