Great dealer/Added to the collection/MM vs. Medium

After about 5 years of cooking on the LBGE, my future brother-in-law decided he wanted one. This is not a paid advertisement, but I need to give my dealer his props. As expected, the guys at Modern Propane came through. They not only beat the competitor's price but really surprised me with how great they were in making a deal. They were so accommodating, in fact, that I decided to buy a Mini Max. However, when they offered me the medium for the same price of the MM, that was the icing on the cake. I am sure some of you guys have some great dealers, as well, so you know what I mean when I say that I feel like I was taken care of.

I was going the MM route but after really thinking it over and realizing I won't really tailgate as much as I would use it normally, the medium made more sense. It will now become my every day cooker while the large will also be lit when the entire family comes over or I have a party.

Bring on Spring!

  • Odd, my dealer just told me there is no negotiation allowed or he would lose his ability to sell the egg.   So is my dealer full of it, or is your dealer breaking rules?

with the number of dealrers in my area no one pays MSRP. my guess is your dealer is feeding you a line.

He can charge whatever he wants, BGE corporation doesn't care as long as he doesn't sell them over the interwebs.

There one dealer in my town, only suckers pay MSRP with them. Of course, they are primarily a furniture dealer so the sales folks initiate the negotiations out of habit.

That's a bunch of bologna. My dealer here runs sales throughout the year, eggs included.

Time to find a new dealer. I got a great deal on a MM. Then we decide to get one for my dad. My dealer said they would do the same price for another. My brother worked on his dealer and got them down another $25 and a bag of lump and an ash tool. So they can deal.

I bought my large for well below the MSRP due to a sale.

My dealer has always negotiated. I've actually never walked into an Egg dealer that would not. I think the bigger box stores are less likely to deal, but certainly the mom and pop shops want your business.

Most will do a package deal. So it boils down to getting the eggcessories for a discount or free. Or you could say you bought the eggcessories full retail and got a discount on the egg.

My dealer works with me.  The family has bought 4 eggs and most accessories from him.

We keep going back because he treats us honest.

He also will tell us if we can find it cheaper than he is willing he has no issues with us going elsewhere.  No hard feelings and he will still deal with us on the next purchase.  (U've stopped wasting my time checking other places)

So far its been a mutually beneficial relationship.  I now buy most my micro-brews, rubs, and sauces there too.

I would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.

For many years we only had one dealer in this area.  MSRP or out the door.  Fairly recently, a two-outlet local home improvement outfit picked up BGE and really changed the market!  They are the "we will not be undersold" type of operation. and it must be driving the other guy nuts!
