Big Green Egg Lump

I have been using ONLY Big Green Egg Lump Charcoal. I keep finding rocks in my egg among the used lump. Is anyone else seeing this?

You'll find rocks in every brand.  Just not all the time.  I use whatever I can get cheap.  If you run across one you don't like, just use it for grilling where it doesn't matter and don't buy it again.

BGE brand is fine.  It is made by the same place that makes Royal Oak.  They just get first pick of the lot.

I personally only use Rockwood.  I get the occasional rock, but I measure the weight of all my bags and they are 21lbs.  I have yet to get over a pound of rocks so I'm good.

I would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.

Yup. rocks in BGE lump. Haven't had any since I quit using it. I use Wicked Good or Rockwood or Ozark Oak(rest in peace).

I have always wondered about whose job description sheet has at BGE  "go to the Royal Oak site and sort through the dirty lump and say "we want that and we don't want that".  Personally I think all the hype is total bull sh*t! When the packaging line is running it just depends on what paper bags have been loaded in the machine! BGE=RO=GFS=Kroger=whatever other brands they are bagging for that day! Buyer beware!

You are going to find rocks in ours eventually......surprised you haven't already.  It's just how trees are harvested and how the manufacturing goes.  No way around it.

That's ok yours has bigger pieces, burns longer and less ash. Keep of the good work.  Great stuff.

I bought a bag of Royal Oak when I started running low on my BGE charcoal bought w/EGG.    LOTS of small pieces.   FEW large and even some NON-charcoaled pieces.   VERY disappointed.    Wife brought home another bag, but if this one is the SAME as the first, the SEARCH will be on for a better or at least more predictable bag of charcoal.
Does NOT even come close to matching the Naked Wiz review sample.  And yes, mine is a USA bag of lump.

Since BGE is reported to be made by RO, you shouldn't see any differences between them.  As to the size of the pieces, how each bag gets handled makes a big difference. Lump will break up if handled roughly. I have seen some bags of RO with lots of big pieces and some with very little.

It isn't just RO that can vary. I recently got my first two bags of Rockwood. Purchased from Ace. The first bag surprised me because it had no large pieces in it. I had always heard people comment that Rockwood was better on large pieces than Royal Oak. However, the Royal Oak I had been using had a lot more large pieces than the Rockwood.  Story changed dramatically with the second bag. Lots of larger pieces. I can only surmise that someone dropped the first bag off the back of the truck onto the store's parking lot.  Lesson learned - handling during transit and delivery makes a big difference.

It does have rock in it's name....

It is a quality lump and I have yet to find rocks in it either, but I have been using mostly OO.
