That knife works great on ribs.
    Thanks!

I got mine.  (thank you)  Does anyone know if you can sharpen this knife using a diamond stone, or in my case a Spyderco Tri-Angle Sharpmaker Knife Sharpener?
No clue...I have not needed to sharpen it once and I've had it a while.  Let us know!
Will do.  I think I might take the time to contact Dexter and ask them.  They make a generic statement on there website that leads me to think maybe you can but I don't want to risk it.

The knife can be sharpened if you know what you are doing. The more appropriate tool for sharpening this type of edge is a DMT. Not a stone. The main thing is to be sure to match the diameter of the DMT to the diameter of the gullets on your particular knife. One size does not fit all. Not sure where you are from, but if you are in my neck of the woods, bring it over and I will gladly show you how to sharpen it and size the gullets.

@mahenryak-For the record, if you have the right equipment, you can sharpen anything that has a edge. No matter what type it is.

@mahenryak- If you ever have a edge type that you are uncomfortable sharpening yourself, I do free knife work for members of both this forum as well as the BBQ Brethern. Just something I do to help folks out. I use to dabble with a little blade building, hollow grinding and angle resetting. Fortunately I kept my Baldor and other tools as well when I got away from it. Let me know if you need one touched up. All it will cost you is the price of shipping it.

Thank you very much, @SGH , that is very kind of you to offer.  I did read all of your replies to me above and I do appreciate it.  This is a very generous offer and I can assure you if I lived reasonably close by I would take you up on your offer to pay you a visit, just for the opportunity to meet you.  I live in Alaska, though.  I think I'll see how it goes with the edge.  Like @Cazzy said above, I probably don't need to worry about it for a while.  I'm just in a habit of touching up my knife blades, that's all.  I want to treat it with respect.  I will report back what the manufacturer says if they should respond to my Email I sent them earlier tonight, just to share with others.  I can't believe how much information you have to share--I mean it.  It's great.  Thanks again, and Cazzy, thank you, too.  I appreciate your straight-forward manner in your posts.

@mahenryak - couple of our good friends have a house in Fairbanks, they just got their first BGE (demo) at Salado.  Trying to get them on the forum.  Anyway, they're living in NOLA for now (military) but they'll be back home eventually, very cool people.  Just thought I'd throw that out, not many eggers on the forum from your state.

SGH - While I don't anticipate shipping knives all that way, I really appreciate the offer.

Last week, on a thread that was winding down, I made a similar offer.  I'll reiterate it here if you don't mind.  I'm in Phx., and I do some media blasting.  If anybody needs some rusted CI or gill related things blasted, it's on the house.  It would be great to meet some forum members.

I actually have some of SGH's CI that I'm blasting.  Scottie, I did blast the corn bread thing (looks like new).  I will finish the other stuff and get your stuff back to you.   I'm blasting with 80 grit glass beads.

Thank you for this.  Very nice.  Fairbanks is a little ways north of where I live (about 360 miles or so) but it's still nice to know there are a few Eggers up here.     Maybe they could convince the BBQ shop that's located in North Pole (just outside of Fairbanks) to pursue an arrangement with Rockwood Lump.  Now that would be very nice, indeed.  :joy:

@mahenryak- I worked up in your neck of the woods years ago. At one time I was in Kuparuk at drill sight #1. Phillips/Agrium in Kenai. Tesoro in Kenai. A man made island in the Beauford sea north of Prudhoe Bay. Red Dog Mine in Kotzebue. VECO shop in Anchorage. I worked all over the place up there. Really enjoyed myself.

@mahenryak- There is actually a documentary about the made man island that I was on. It's on the Discovery channel. It's called North Star. The island was originally built in the 80's and later abandoned by Royal Dutch Shell and was called Seal Island at the time. When British Petroleum bought it, they changed the name to North Star.

That's pretty cool.  I'll keep an eye out for that.  Sounds like you were up here when AK oil production was in full swing.  I just heard a statistic today on the way into town that AK used to supply 20% of the nation's oil but now it is down to a tawdry 5%, due to a variety of factors.

At one time they no doubt did. Especially when ARCO had the major lease holdings. Now that foreign majors have acquired a lot of the leases, the oil now goes overseas as well. Production is probably still at or near the all time high. The oil is just going overseas instead of state side.

I've been to Alaska once.  Spent a week in Ft. Greely. Drove through North Pole and ate at a burger stand with the best buffalo burgers and blackberry milkshake I ever had.

I think you make a very valid point, and I know we're OT, but Production is quite a bit down, too, from what it once was.

Growing up an Army brat, I experienced living in Alaska for two years, before it was a state. Saw wolf tracks in the snow, and moose would come close to the back of the quarters we lived in.

Not much cheaper, $26 final price, but never hurts to save a few bucks.

I got boned this morning.  It's a Dexter-Russell 6" (S131-6PCP) boning knife. I'm also going to pick up the Dexter-Russell Scalloped Roast Slicer (S140-12SC-PCP) just waiting to hear back from the seller.

One popped up back in stock this afternoon via Amazon Prime for $24.16.  I was able to grab it.

I was at Business Costco yesterday and they have similar knives made by Russell, these are Dexter Russell... the same?  There was quite a selection but this style was out of stock.  The pricing on the styles they did have was really cheap; some were two for $13.
