Could of had the same skid for around 12 bucks a bag except the bags would be orange and yellow. But that should last you a while. Enjoy the tenderloins.

Big Green Egg charcoal is the same as Royal Oak. But if you are in good with your dealer that's a different story. I overpay for great service all the time. You should be set on charcoal for a while. Which is always good!

How much does a bag typically go for in your area?

Which came first the chicken or the egg?  I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

@Benjir- First up, welcome aboard and enjoy the journey.  As above, good that you are in with your dealer.
BTW- to make you aware, lump charcoal discussions here can be like religion anywhere else.  Everyone has an opinion...

Looks good. Might have to thaw one out for tomorrow. I haven't done tenderloin for a while. Nicely Done!

    Pork is looking good!

If the going rate is $30 a bag then you did good splitting the pallet.  Like Scott mentioned though it is Royal Oak so you are paying a bit of a "big green egg" tax.  Around Memorial day and Labor Day wally world often has the red bags of Royal Oak on sale for about $8 for a 17.7# bag.

I'll do a bit more research for next time , I have bought some royal oak in the past but seems as if it has lots more fines than the bge coal , maybe it was from bags getting thrown around a lot .ive tried cowboy charcoal and it  just sucks feels like a bag of gravel when you pick it up .

Personally if someone is stupid enough to pay $30 then that is their problem! BTW where are you located? Maybe we can give you other ideas for future buys. It's not a matter of becoming a lump snob, but if you really get into egging as often as many of us here do then you will be buying more and more! You might as well pay less for lump to have more money for meat. Oh...I forgot...welcome aboard!

Walmart here in Washington use to have the 17# for 9.97...now they just have the small bags for 6.97. Home Depot had the 17# for $13.

Not sure of good buys up there, but check with WM. Also many of the national hardware chains such as ACE have lump in their distribution centers and you can special order that way. Years ago when I didn't have a reliable constant source I used that method. OTOH  as people say here Firecraft has become a great source when you buy enough to get free shipping. BTW did you know that you in SD must either have one of the FEW eggs in your state or at least read any of these BGE sites? Don't ask me why I think that har har har

Just for kicks and giggles you might want to call that store first and check that they stock it! OTOH I know it is available from their distribution warehouse and a helluva lot cheaper than what you paid for the same product in a green bag! We are NOT lump snobs, but thrifty shoppers! We want to spend our savings on MEAT!!!
