I like flats, not drumettes..
Well my wings are halfway decent finally - I like em better than Zaxby's so that's a plus :-)
BUT, I don't like drums, I prefer the flats.
I have never tried to source wings from anywhere except Pubix frozen wings.
Do any sources sell flats only? I am in Atlanta Metro..
Will those wing racks hold flats, they look like they are built for drumettes?
Thanks

I'm with you. I prefer the flats. Wife likes the drummettes, so it all works out for us. I don't think those racks will hold just the flats. Either whole wings or chicken legs.

Yes.
I know a few that sell just flats.
I prefer Wilkes Meat. There's one a mile or so north of McGinnis Ferry on Peachtree Industrial. Another Wilkes (a better store) off 369 and 400. Fergusons, also on 369 off of 400. Whole Foods will sell just flats.
I like Wilkes and Ferguson's because they sell fresh jumbo size and they're cheaper then Whole Foods.
Not sure where you are in the ATL but if you googled butcher shops in your zip you could find them.
Frozen Public is the last place I'd think of for wings on the Egg. There are better options out there,

Thanks Buckeye! I will check em out. Wilkes used to be in my Tucker home area but I work in Alpharetta so I'll check em out. PS my wife is a Lima, OH native. Loves Bengals, hates the Browns lolLBGE, AR. Lives in N.E. ATL

Ya - go North on 400, left on 369. It's the first red light going North on 400. Fergusons is just after the first light on the right and Wilkes is a few miles to the next light. Turn right and you'll see it on the Left.
I also buy butts ribs and ground beef there. They'll cut butts to size for you.New Albany, Ohio -
I think all of our local supermarkets have packaged fresh wings whole or just drums or just flats. I have to buy two packs to get both unless I want to buy whole and cut. Check on the fresh ones.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER -
I did buy whole wings & managed to cut them up myself once. Fun but dangerous for me as I have fine motor control issues with my left hand and holding them was tough. I hate stitches ( :-) so I'll pay a slight premium. Never saw anything fresh at La Publix except the whole wings. I will check out the Tucker Meat market & if none there I'll try Buckeye's suggestions near my work. Thanks folks!LBGE, AR. Lives in N.E. ATL

I eat them all, but I do prefer the 2-bone flats over the one-bone drumette.
However, i also like the tips, so quite often, I buy the package of whole wings, and cut them up myself so I can have the tips as well. Not much meat on the tips, but it still has plenty of scrumpdilicious skin.

There is also Patton's Meat Market in Duluth. May be closer than Wilkes - depending on where you work in Alpharetta.

SWMBO likes the flats. I'll order 8 flats and 4 drums for me. I'm a 2/3 kind of guy.New Albany, Ohio

Great post. I love flats because the meat is so solidly protected between those two bones. They may look smaller but they make it up in texture.

Try cooking them whole and then cut them up when they are finished. Much easier that way.swordsmn said:I did buy whole wings & managed to cut them up myself once. Wife and I both prefer the flats. I buy my wings from the butcher and he will give me mostly flats. I guess most prefer the drummettes

Thanks, I frankly thought it would be tough to find. THEN last night my wife says "well I like the drumettes best" lol So pressure is off but I'm still going to go on a procurement run

Check out an Asian market if you have one around, they often sell either drummers or flappers - your choice. @VANcouverEGG the best place to get these locally is T&T, IMO.
We often buy the 50/50 mix at Costco, grandkids seem to like them all. If I’m breading and deep frying, flappers are the best choice.Delta B.C. - Whiskey and steak, because no good story ever started with someone having a salad!
