High-Que grate problem

Just wanted to ask and see if anyone else is having trouble with their High-Que grate sliding around and letting lump pass down into the ash collection area?
I always stir my lump before I cook and I noticed pieces of lump coming out when I did my cleanout before the cook. I took eveything apart today and noticed my High-Que grate was out of position which left a decent sized opening for lump to fall through. Probably going to need to rig something to keep it in place. Thanks

I flipped mine upside down and it seems to hold it in place better. Steel circle faces up in mine now. Seems like the bars hold it...Mike - (1)LBGE, HeaterMeter v4.2.4

Yes. I use an old 7 iron of my father's and if I'm too aggressive with the stir, the grate slides. Same thing with the original.
I just bought the HQ. Seems a lot of useful lump gets the heave ho.New Albany, Ohio -
I think I'll try that the next time I remove everything to prepare for a clean burn. Hope it works because it's really annoying. I like the High-Que as it seems to allow more air flow but the original grate never had this problem.thegooddocta said:I flipped mine upside down and it seems to hold it in place better. Yeah it worked for me - not sure of your stirring aggression level though ;]Mike - (1)LBGE, HeaterMeter v4.2.4

Maybe just lighten up on the stir. If it was snuffed, you really don’t need to mix it much at all. I’ve always had my High-Que grate with the bars down (MBGE). Stirring will, IMO, allow the smaller half burned pieces to drop down and hinder, not cut off, air flow. Just dump the new on the top and you are good to go.Delta B.C. - Whiskey and steak, because no good story ever started with someone having a salad!

Haha, yeah, I really don't dig deep with the ash tool when I stir the lump but obviously it's moving it around. Decided to go ahead and do a clean burn since I had everything apart. Dome is sweating big time lol. We've had a lot of rain recently.thegooddocta said:Yeah it worked for me - not sure of your stirring aggression level though ;]

No need for the hi-q if you have the basket.

To each their own. Seems to me the basket is an obvious improvement on an already good idea. Both fine products though.Chubbs said:
