Large bge.

Ok Egg heads is this a good deal. $400.00 large bge comes with plate setter ash tool nest and mates. It has been in a storage unit for while. I have a med and I'm wanting to to get a bigger one. Let me know what you think. Is the large a lot better than the medium?
Sorry there is only picture.

Personally I'd offer him a few bucks for the nest and the shelves and buy new just for the warranty. Never thought I'd say that but just made my first warranty claim about a month ago.I raise my kids, cook and golf. $400.00 for a large, not a horrible deal, see if he'll go three fitty.

I keep hearing about used eggs. I keep hearing about warranty claims and it only being a matter of time. Maybe I listen to closely, but other than for 50 or a 100, I wouldn't touch a used egg.
I will have several eggs, but they will all be new.Phoenix -
I would pick up a used egg if the price was in the $300 range no problem.

Ozzie - if you crack a base or dome, wouldn't that put you at the price of a new egg? OT - I'm thinking of getting an egg at a fest. Do you think these eggs are a good deal?Phoenix

They are just different sizes.Collins87 said:Is the large a lot better than the medium?
That's a good deal. It's about 600 off the new price. I would buy it. If you can work him down, great, but at the price someone is going to buy it fast.
The warranty is nice, and some people have had some very defective parts. If the egg is well used, any casting problems are probably not there and it's likely to last for years. If you have to buy a part, you're still going to be in good shape because you're saving 600 bucks.
My opinion, mileage will vary based on the randomness of the universe.

@blasting If the base were to crack you can always buy a replacement. The replacement base might be $300+ but it will come with a full warranty. Add that to the $400 and that's still cheaper then a $1,000+ new egg. It may never crack or he'll end up buying replacement pieces that will come close to full retail price in the future. Buying a used egg isn't terrible as long as you know what you're getting into. A used egg is almost like a loan. People can put down what they can afford and make payments with warranty claims. Plus when someone buys a used egg and doesn't like it they aren't out hundreds and hundreds of dollars when they sell it. It's not always a death penalty when buying a used egg.blasting said:Ozzie - if you crack a base or dome, wouldn't that put you at the price of a new egg? I bought a used old Large BGE for $200 at a yard sale several years ago. Since then I've replaced just about everything. It got me into egging fairly cheap, but the cost of the new parts pushed that initial good deal into a more expensive one, but still I would do it again.

I paid 300.00 for a used large with a ton of extras..I just bought a new fire box for a whopping 160 with shipping an tax, ( I just bought it for back up as the other has a small crack)...honesty, I see more warranty, issues on here with the newer eggs than the older one I bought....400 I'd offer 3 and settle at 350, heck with the warranty, look it over and roll the diceVisalia, Ca @lkapigian

Large and medium is a great combo in my opinion. $400 isn't too bad if it has the stainless steel cooking grid. If it has the porcelain coated one, you'll likely have another $50-60 into a new grid soon. $300-350 would be a great deal. If you want it, you had better snatch it up because there are plenty of people that will buy it at his price.L x2, M, S, Mini and a Blackstone 36. She says I have enough now....eggAddict from MN!

Well I got it. It's in realy good shape. Firebox look good even the gasket ring looks good the plate setter was clean as well .She wouldn't come down from $400.00 she did me a bunch of cooking tools.
-
Good job. I would have bought it. With it being used I would simply be careful about nuclear temps. If cooking pizza or something use your medium. I have a used small that i paid 300 bucks for. Ive gotten my moneys worth in just a couple years. I think you got a good deal. I'm happy for you.

Nice man. You are going to love the large. I have large and mini combo which is perfect for me. If I were to add another I think the medium would be what I would get.Collins87 said:Thanks. Ok guys I think some people are going to say I told you so. But we have a problem. I went to grill some hotdogs tonight. I took it slow didn't heat it up fast but it has a crack in the bottom of the cent on the outside it runs to the middle of the egg. I'm so bummed.
1st question can this be fixed.
2ed question how much is freaking babse.
3rd how in the hell did I miss this crack.
I feel sick..... -
-
Personally I would start by calling the seller and see if you guys can work out an agreement. Perhaps split the cost of a base with him.

Nobody will say I told you so. That sucks man. Hope you can get something worked out with the seller.I raise my kids, cook and golf. Btw, this forum is full of guys/gals who like to give each other a hard time, but nobody wished this outcome for you, nor will they say I told you. We want you to get the problem resolved.
