whorq, load that bad boy up!
-
whorq, load it at least to the top of the firebox.

Okay top of firebox, but is it going to consume lots of fuel? I understood these things are supposed to be fuel efficient. I used nearly a full chimney on just some chicken breasts. I would not have used this much in a weber which is really not much bigger.

whorq,
It takes about 10# of lump to fill up the XL.

Load it up, and don't look back.

whoq,[p]I've used a weber chimney to start fires for years and while it works fine as a measure of briquets for a regular grill, it doesn't come anywhere near enough for even a large BGE, let alone an XL.

I have the XL Egg. When I want a high temp (above 700 degrees) I put about 4 inches of lump in box. I light a firestarter stick set it in the middle of the lum p and go and drink a beer or two. In 10-15 minutes I shut the lid with the vents wide open. In less than 1/2 of beer the temp is up to 700 and I'm ready to put on the steaks. When I'm done cooking I shut the vents and most of the lump is there next time I use the egg.
