I took delivery of my XL on Wednesday. No TIME for anything until today when I did a 'trial burn' to start to learn how to control temp and light the grill. I'm a veteran Weber guy for 40+ years and before THAT owned as many as 6 Hibachi ('member THEM?) at ONCE.
Anyway, I fired it up with 2 starters and waited maybe 15 minutes and started closing vents. I could NEVER get it below about 380 to 400 even with everything closed. I finally put the stopper in and started to cool it off. THAN I noted that the Daisy Wheel was NOT in firm contact with the vent. It 'rocked'. I took it apart and ended up using my Dremel to open up the hole in the Daisy Wheel so it went ALL the way down and the boss for the screw was raised above it. THAT'S the key. Daisy Wheel now seats against the vent. When I fired it up this afternoon for A REAL COOK, I was easily able to get the grill to control at 350 and made some WONDERFUL Chicken.
Next cook with be something 'indirect'. Maybe some kind of roast.
I'll post a photo later, as soon as I figure out THAT feature of this board.

Can you post a picture? I think that I may have the same problem with my Mini Max.____________________Entrepreneurs are simply those who understand that there is little difference between obstacle and opportunity and are able to turn both to their advantage. •Niccolo Machiavelli

Egg handler? Not yet. Here is a drawing in Google Sketchup of my PROPOSED table. Think, with 2x4s that it'll be strong enough?

There will be 6@ 2x4 'cross' pieces per level. 2 of 'em directly under the granite, which is 30mm and 18" x 24" -
If anyone wants a copy of this file, let me know. You MUST have Google Sketchup (a freebie) to read the format.
