OT: Easy, Great Slaw

There's a really good sandwich place here in ABQ called Relish.  The first time I went this year I chose their coleslaw as the side dish.  This stuff was really good, and they basically had the recipe on the menu.  I'm not a huge coleslaw fan, so take it with a grain of salt, but we've made this a few times now and my wife says she doesn't see why you'd ever make anything else it's so good.

And the recipe is easy.  It's a bag of diced green cabbage, a bottle of poppy seed dressing, and a diced Granny Smith apple.   The apple is really key.  It gives it a nice, clean, tangy flavor.  There is a slightly more involved recipe here for those who would prefer not to use a bottle of dressing, but I'm all for making things easy.

I only have one shot of it on the plate with some ribs I did recently, but hopefully this is enough to give you the idea:

I'm sure it's not for everyone, but it's definitely for me!

Not a fan of slaw as we make it here round here, but I'd definitely try that.

  • I'm always up for a new recipe.  We have been making Robert Irvine's recipe from Food Network as a compromise.  I like a more vinegar base and Wilma doesn't.  Robert Irvine's recipe is creamy.  The Apple makes me curious.  Gotta give it a whirl.  Thanks!

The first time I had this, I really didn't pay attention to the recipe.  Then I started eating it.  My first thoughts were, man this is good!  Why is this slaw so good?  What the heck is in this?  Oh... it's apple!
