Naked whiz, thanks for the table plans on your site. I don't understand why your dimensions are backwards such as 4x2, instead of 2x4. I felt like an idiot asking for a 4x2 then realized when I said it. And who sells 1x3 and 7/8" instead of 4x1's I mean 1x4s. Just wondering if your eurpean or something and used to another scale.

Seriously, I never gave it any thought. I didn't specify 2x4's for example, because I didn't use 2x4 lumber. I bought S2S stock and ripped it all to width. Thus the 4" by 7/8" boards for the top surface, for example, which were exactly that: 4" by 7/8". I just WISH I had the facility to do long rips AND actually had a lumber yard which sold what you started with. I can get 'random widths and lengths' at several places. I found a good piece and built an end grain MAPLE cutting board for the wife. However,
The question is:
Do you think that using 'stock' size 2x4s, probably Doug Fir, it'll be strong enough for an XL? That's just for the frame.
For the tops, I'll use either expensive Cedar or Redwood. Either are available in very good looking woods. I've already got a couple pieces of 30mm Granite, one is 18x18, the other for under the grill is 18x24. And $$$

So........ I used Mr. Whiz's design and adjusted to use cedar 4x4s, fence boards, pine 2x4s and 4x4s. Took a little bit of math but the table turned out great.http://eggheadforum.com/discussion/1177724/egg-nest-for-future-egg#latesthttp://

Used treated pine for mine. I didn't build it, but I know the guy only used a skill saw and chop saw.
