Was bummed it was raining today until I remembered the pop up! Put it over the Egg and decided to attempt my first tri tip. Turned out pretty well!

I picked up a tri-tip today at Whole Paycheck. It is currently marinating in some red wine, olive oil, garlic, Hawaiian sea salt, and black pepper. It'll go on the egg tomorrow. It'll be served with a smoked onion and grilled asparagus.MMBGE / Large BGE / XL BGE (Craigslist Find) / SF30x80 cabinet trailer - "Ol' Mortimer" / Outdoor kitchen in progress.

Great job, tri-tip is one of my favorites.

A very nice looking first tri tip you have here. If you make another, slice off a steak sized piece and grill it hot and fast like a steak. Then you wont have to anticipate how good the rest will be when its ready. You will already know.

Sliced Tri Tip for steaks makes for an excellent grill as well cooking them whole. They're definitely my go to cut. Wish brisket was available like tri tip here in CA.Nice job on that one, looks nice and tastyLBGE - I like the hot stuff. The big dry San Joaquin Valley, Clovis, CA

@logchief, I would look up some local butchers in the area, down in Oakdale there are some beef ranches and dairy ranches, I think if you look further, you could get some great cuts out there.

Hard to imagine doing any better. Sweet!

Mmm...Mmm good. Tri-tips the best. Looks like you sliced it with the grain or at least some of it with the grain. Tri-tip gets tricky because the grain kinda changes directions. If you slice against the grain, it will be much easier to chew. Either way, you had some good eats tonight.Steven

Looks delicous!!! Excellent grill marks. I have not eaten tri-tip before, but might have to add it to the repertoire.
