Thanks for the welcome everyone.
@anzyegg it did get dirty!! Man they sure don't stay white and pretty inside long do they?.....lol
One question, I have a Maverick 733 temp guage, is it safe to run the wires between the felt seals or how should you do it? -
Welcome. Yes. Just close the dome on the temp probes. It best to have the probe wires over a platesetter leg so they are not getting direct heat. Some will tell you to wrap probe wires in foil but I've never done it. My Maverick 732 is two years old and no problems yet

One other question I forgot to ask earlier. When I was browsing around about lighting it, I seen a wide variety of ways. I asked the dealer tonight when I picked it up and he said since I had a chimney starter to just fill it half way and light it and let it burn like I would regular charcoal, dump it in, spread it out over the top. Let it sit there like that for about 5-10 mins and it would be good to go. Thats what I done tonight and it worked good.Just seeing if this method was right or if there is something better. Thanks

Great start and welcome aboard.
I think @henapple's post above is hilarious. He actually is a wealth of knowledge. But the reason I think it is funny is that I was just wondering which of the new members (I don't like "newbie" in this setting as it sounds demeaning and seems to dismiss the fact that most of the new members already bring a lot of knowledge about outdoor cooking to the table - they are just new to the BGE) will be most like henapple in terms of his/her participation around here. He and I joined about the same time which was less than 2 years ago, but he already has over 12,000 posts.
I guess what I am really asking is "Which new member has no real life... like henapple?"

I got mine and lite a chimney starter as you did. I have some spare LP regulators and am thinking about making what I will call a fire pipe. Add a few fittings drill some holes and let her rip, place it into the lump.1 brand new XL BGE 1-22" WSM 1-Weber Performer 1-Four Seasons gasser West Islip, New York

Done some marinaded chicken breast halves tonight. I cant wait till the plate setter gets in and I can try some low and slow cooks on this thing!!!!

The one on the left is for my niece, she wont eat anything unless its burnt and ruined.....lol -
I use two fire bricks on edge in the fire box to keep the lump to the back of the egg if I need direct and indirect at the same time . And I cut a third brick in thirds. Placed on the grate with a 20 inch grate placed on top of the bricks. Puts u at the felt line. An aluminum drip pan fits great if needed. Look at SAMs for them. But heck I'm just a grunt. You will figure it out or blow it up. That's what we do

Is it ok if my wife f@ke$ it ? :-w -

Lots of ways to light. Mapp torch, chimney, cubes, Loof lighter, electric starter...etc. Personal preference. Key is to let it go long enough to let it establish and burn off the VOCs (volatile organic compounds) that are found in varying degrees depending on the lump you buy. If you start too soon you could get a foul taste. Rule of thumb is let it go till the smoke burns clear and smells good. Welcome and enjoy.XL BGE; Medium BGE; L BGE
