Vacation Burgers, Brats, and a Butt - Slightly OT

So this is where I have to spend the next 7 days.
image

I suppose I can tolerate this... :D

When my wife was inquiring about this rental I made sure she asked if it was OK if I brought a grill along. Their response was "Why, there is a gas grill here already?"

I'm glad they were OK with it, otherwise I would be dealing with this:
image

I was planning to bring my Small BGE, but thanks to @firemanyz I ended up with this that fits better in my truck for transport:

image

First up, brats, started indirect, finished direct:

Next up, some bacon cheddar burgers:

Photo taking wasn't the best, not sure why...

Later on last night I reloaded with Hasty Bake lump and some cherry chunks. Tossed the butt on around midnight.

image

I'm sitting outside drinking coffee and smelling some butt. The kids are about to jump in the pool and later on I think we'll head to the beach for a bit.

Sorry to gloat, but this is the first time we have ever done a warm weather vacation as a family during the winter. I can say with some degree of certainty it won't be the last.

Looks like good times ahead. I like both the JR and the Pelican cooler as I have both myself. If its not being to nosy, where are yall vacationing at?  Just curious if yall are down here in Dixie.

Dropped the temp to 225*, the butt was at 174*, then went to the beach. I hope everything stays as set and the batteries in the PartyQ don't die. Little guy is having a blast in the sand. Seriously considering relocating south... I don't know how you guys in perfect weather ever get any work done.

  • Yesterday we flew back from Manasota Key which is near Englewood/ Port Charlotte, just south of Sarasota.  I had to leave my egg and deal with a gas grill like you took a picture of...  same size, brand, no side burner and the igniter didnt' work.  LOL.   Did grill up some fat, fresh, pink, gulf shrimp though on two occasions.

Hope you have awesome weather, last week for us absolutely rocked.  Wonderful temps in the upper seventies and low eighties except one day.

Go outside in the middle of July :).  You will beg someone to let you in an air conditioned office.

Which came first the chicken or the egg?  I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

Just got back from the beach, butt is at 188*. I meant to post this pic from the beach but cell service was pretty poor. The butt was mostly frozen to start with BTW.

What was the total cook time? Did you have to reload lump?

It went on around midnight, pulled off a bit before 5:00PM. I loaded it up with lump so full that the heat deflector was sitting on top of lump. I had to pull the PartyQ twice to give the fire grate a good shake with a wiggle rod to clear ash, but did not need to reload. I see a High-Que in the future for this.

    Here is what was left.
