Not me. You only get 5 more inches in diameter, but 4k more? Just 3-4 XL's for the same price.

I'm not considering one, but just looked at one on Friday. FWIW, it was priced at $3,649 and includes the plate setter and nest handler.

Th XXL is a novelty. Not many guys in here have one. The ones that do either dont use it or they post few and far between.

Agreed. It is a novelty for me as no I don't use mine. I have not really had time this year due to work and when I do have time I don't have the need to fire it up. Seems l Ike my cooks are to small or to big for the xxl so right now it is resting quietly the the back corner of my garage. :(

I agree that I do not need an XXL.  But I might provide some positive logic for the XXL....

A 16" pie is a lot more pizza than a 12" pie.. almost always a better value.  The extra inches in diameter do not scale linearly. The area of a circle is A=π(r)² .   So your XL egg 24" cooking grid gives you an area of 452" but the extra 5 inches gives you an area of 754".

The extra 5 inches is 30% more inches in diameter but it is almost 70% more cooking area.

BUT. A pizza 16 vs 12 is not the same price difference as a XXL vs XL BGE.

I think the argument is, at least for me, if someone has $3600 to spend on a smoker, his money is better spent on a trailer smoker like sgh's #6.

Btw, I seriously want that smoker.

There was a member on here that bought the XXL for his crew at work.  He was posting cooks of ribs and such for his entire team.

They are are made about a hour from my house and my dealer who is 3 miles away sell them. This is what I want next as a smoker, but can't justify it unless I am doing some catering.

I think your last sentence sums up why many people have issue with the XXL cost. 2 XL's will give you a cooking area of 904 inches, and 2 XL's are still considerably less $$ than one XXL.  So in this case you get far more pizza for far less money by ordering two of the smaller ones :).

Which came first the chicken or the egg?  I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

Around $2300+tax. It will do more then the XXL and a third of the cost. I have taken 2 cooking classes from Chris Marks, the first one he used there test model for the phase 3 Marshall. The second one was on the new phase 3 Marshall. They are are made of heavy steal and hold their temp very well. In our Brisket and Butts class he cooked 2-14 to 15 pound briskets and 2-10 pound pork butts in around 10 to 12 hours cooking around 275. They were both juicy and had great flavor. Below are some spare ribs he did in 3 hours on the

@jjharriss144 and @badinfluence - you are not alone in your madness.  Of those who look askance at the XXL, how many have multiple eggs?  How many NEED multiple eggs?  I'm guilty as charged.  I have an XL that satisfies all my outdoor cooking needs.  I also have a medium, which is very handy, comes up to temp faster (than the XL), and really sees the most action.  Did I need it?  I was able to rationalize it to myself, and I had enough wampum to buy it.  But I didn't need it.  The XXL merely stretches the financial scale of the equation.  And it is a matter of scale.  Ten bucks is  a lot to some people.  To others, it's a hundred, to still others $1,000 and so on down the line.  It always boils down to want.

    I want a minimax...

  • @tksmoke I now have a mini max as well. I promised the mrs I would stop at a dozen eggs. Got it...so maybe she will let me go a bakers dozen. :D

  • @Lit....   Wish I knew about that app a few months ago.  I was in the market for a decent grill/smoker for my toyhauler and became obsessed with craigslist.  In the end, I finally gave up my quest for finding "a deal" and ordered a yoder.  Still addicted to craigslist though!!!!

I have a windows phone so it might not be available for all platforms. I know I have a different one on my iPhone for work though where you can select all major cities with a single click. This works great for one off things like I am looking for a Griswold hearts and star waffle iron right now and hoping to find one. I found my Simpsons Weber in Maine and paid the guy to ship it here.
  • I'd like to have one but certainly don't need it.
