41 Years Since I Played Poker

As many of you know, I won my Sweetie in a Poker Game in New Orleans. That was 41 years ago today. I haven't needed to play poker since then.

In Louisiana, Poker winnings are considered yours and unless you want the ceremony to go with it, you are legally married (or something like that). We opted for the ceremony, the upgrade version and here we are 41 years later, still stuck with/on each other.

It has been a special, 'Just Us Day' and we've enjoyed it. I made a special breakfast, then Judy made some special leftover turkey sandwiches for lunch and then together we cooked a special dinner.

We already knew we were going to cook another one of those Costco choice ribeyes, but then 4:00 PM it hit me that I wanted some homemade bread to go with it. WHAT!!!

So I raced to the computer and looked up quick bread recipes. Found one. Worth a try. By 5:30 it was on the Egg in a Dutch Oven.

Then, I decided I wanted some potatoes, the kind that are cut into quarters and cooked in oil and butter and seasonings. So when the bread came off, I threw the potatoes in the already hot Dutch Oven.

Then it was time to put the steak on after a countertop warm up. It was still 65° in the center so I nuked it for a few minutes on level 2 setting. That brought the internal temperature up to 105°. Good enough.

Remove the Dutch Oven with the Potatoes and on goes the meat. 45 seconds, quarter turn, 30 seconds, roll over, 45 seconds, check temperature 112°, quarter turn 30 more seconds, check temperature, 118°. Close enough. The best steak we've had in a very long time.

With wine, salad, and everything else, it was a very good day.

Here are some photos starting with the bread making..

We'll be doing this again next year.
