How do you cook 6 racks of ribs at once on the LG egg?

This weekend I am looking to cook 6 racks of baby backs on the large BGE. I will be using a 2-2-1 method and wanted to hear if anyone had any tips.

I will use a v rack for the first 2 hours - then wrap in aluminum foil for another 2 then leave them on without the foil for another hour.

Any tips on spacing would be very helpful - I am concered with the last two steps, aluminum foil, if these ribs are so close will they get the heat they need? Also for the last hour should I be putting them back on the v rack of just standing them up next to each other?

Thanks!

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

I have done 6 at a time. It is a little tight and I did rotate the V Rack a couple times and relocate the inside slabs to the outside to crisp up the bark.

  • I did 7 on my large.  Make sure to use some heavy duty foil to block the space where the platesetter allows direct heat.

  • Thanks for the tips! Looks like I will be good to do 6 racks of ribs and it seems to not matter much how close they are, they still get cooked fine so I am feeling comfortable. Excited to use this forum to find out more!

I lack the experience and talent, but there is a guy here who says,

" . . .  I'm trying to show how you can load 12 racks without them touching or having to move them around. This way one can load 12 racks and shut the dome until they are done. No having to move them around or check anything. Simply load 12 racks and cook 12 racks worry and hassle free. And they will all cook the very same. No over cooked spots nor any under cooked spots. Just 12 perfect racks of ribs on the standard grid."

THAT's the guy you want to hear from!  :>  Since he can do TWELVE, he most certainly can hook you up! :D

That's IF you can find the guy.  I don't remember his name just now.  :-??

    B-)

I have the adjustable rig and do them like @Brisket Fanatic does now but prior to having the Rig I had used a rib rack with the plate setter I would stack 6 racks in the rack and would criss cross two across the top of the 6 and could do 8 racks at a time. I would also wrap the ends of the ribs that hung over the open parts of the plate setter so they wouldnt burn from the direct heat. I would do them 3-2-1 at 250 degrees.
