BRISKET SIMPLE

I am cooking a brisket for All Saints Day, and to smoke out the yard as we are in mosquito season, and all was going well then I notice my egg may need some braces, as a slight under bite has developed, oh well, don't panic, and have a homebrew.  Rub down the brisket, simple salt and pepper corn.

Get out the remote thermometer put brisket on and set up probes.

Wow that was a fast cook showing 276 degrees already, and with the pit at a nice 250 and holding steady.   I changed the batteries and checked the connections.  Has anybody seen this.  I am using the BGE model as it was a gift from my brother, I have had it about 10 months.

No I meant 276, showed this temp for the meat in about 2 minutes, I think something is wrong with the probe.  after the cook I will do some diagnostics but I was wondering if anyone else has seen any problems.

Well, we don't see that temp very often, I don't know what I would do, I don't think any of my landscaping would survive

  • Brisket looks great, but something sounds wrong here. First off, I'd think ant brisket showing 276 would be either disintegrated or carbonized. It almost certainly wouldn't look as good as this one! Second, how would the brisket get to 276 if the Egg is running at 250?

Congrats and good luck finding/fixing the bug...

    Cheers -

I also have the BGE Maverick remote setup. I also bought mine with my egg in DEC 1013. I have had no problems of any kind.

Did your 276 temp ever straighten back out and read correctly ??  I do not know what could have been wrong with it...like you said, maybe a probe gone bad. Did you try switching probes to see what the other read when inserted on the brisket ??  Did the IT probe that read 276, go back to your outside temperature when you removed it from the meat and egg ??

Don't know...but if you need new probes...go to amazen products on;ine.  Thier probes are about $14 each and have 6 foot lonfg leads.

    Brisket looks awesome !!!!

The temp reading showed up when I first started the cook.  I did switch the probes and discovered that the food probe failed, and have ordered a new one.  My only concern is that I have only had this for 10 months, but it has been used 20 times or so,

Brisket looks good. Sounds like a bad probe to me but at least you were able to relax, don't worry and have a homebrew. What were you drinking? How are things down there in S. Texas? Don't look like I'm gonna be able to get down there anytime soon.
