I think I'm approaching meat overload

SWMBO just informed me, "Just so you know, I'm going out to eat Friday night. Are you coming with me?" I had to pause for a minute to think, then instinct AND learned behavior kicked in and I replied, "Yes, dear." Hey, Happy Wife=Happy Life. Judge if you must.

All that said, I need to do something different and soon before I turn her off of the egg. Something "knock your socks (or other article of clothing ;) off"

Suggestions welcome. We like to try different things and both born and bred in the South. When we travel it's a rule to find the hole in the wall dive and chains are forbidden.

Sushi is my "go-to" when I'm all smoked out.  Not something you can make at home easily, but maybe there's a "hand's-on sushi class" locally that you both can sign up?  (I've done one, fun as heck)
Although the "wok hei" is incredible off an Egg (because of the high heat), stir-frying on the stove ain't a bad second choice, and the choice of recipes is infinite.
And, as we enter November, soups!  If you're feeling adventurous, try a Vietnamese pho!!

@botch sushi will likely be what we go out for on Friday. Either that or Mexican as there is no shortage of Mexican restaurants here. Good ones too as Hispanics are the majority minority here. Unfortunately, sushi grade fish must be mail ordered as the stores here don't carry. I've considered it, but it's fairly expensive.

Same here, I can buy it in SLC but its a 45-minute drive each way; that's why I leave it to the restaurants (and the occasional class).  Where do you live, Yolk?

Is pizza on the egg an option? You could do traditional pizza w homemade dough or small naan pizzas. My favorite is smoked salmon or sausage on naan bread for a quick weeknight meal. Fridays at my house is pizza night. We do 4 and invite the neighbors. All agree delivery pizza is a last resort now. The best part, the neighbors bring booze and sides.
    Fish, Hunt, Cook....anything else?

Pizza is definitely a possibility. We haven't done that yet. She's not anti-egg yet, but don't want to get to that point. My boys are loving it.

One of my wifes favorites on the egg is stuffed baked potatoes. We have tried various meat and cheese combinations (pulled pork, steak, ground beef). I think our favorite was ground beef, onions, mushrooms.

Which came first the chicken or the egg?  I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

I too am from Dalton. As you know we have limited choices here that are not a chain. Hamilton's pizza took over Iron Gate and heard they are good. If you want something other than pizza I love Tony's in Chattanooga art bluff area. Great Italian. Also there is a great Thai restaurant on Brainerd Rd just down from Rib and Loin.

Try making mussels on the Egg. That should make her happy. Here's one we like to do (we added in clams as well)

Is it all kinds of meat or just certain things? I got my egg last spring and the wife pulled the plug on ribs after 6 or so cooks.

Friday night steaks, with no smoke, after the kids are settled in for the night, with a bottle of wine, seems to be acceptable though.

My wife "officially" doesn't like fish. So when I make it, it had best be good. She's been pretty happy w. both stuffed mackerel and trout.

I've made some pretty good foccacia on the Egg. I'm not much of a baker, but the bread isn't too hard for me to make, and lots of different flavors can be baked into it.

I think you hit it. I've only had the egg a short time and I haven't been very creative yet. Lots of BBQ flavoring. She likes those things and she likes that I'm cooking, but I think I'm wearing them out.

Yes, those mussels look awesome.  Unfortunately I love them but wife doesn't!  There are some scallops over on the pr0n thread that look great too.  I think I'll pick up a small CI pan to start doing things like that.  I was also thinking of trying dessert type things, like an apple crumble. A new challenge for this weekend!

  • @theyolksonyou‌ Sorry that my previous answer wasn't very serious. A lot of people probably go through what you are going through. If you've cooked on a webber kettle or gasser for years everything you cooked was probably slathered in bbq sauce, besides steak. It's easy to keep those habits. Try buying a new cookbook. I recommend Serious BBQ by APL. If you want to try making some sides corn is very good on the egg. I would recommend leaving the husk on because corn soaks up smoke very well and you'll end up only tasting the smoke.

@Grillin_beers‌ No apology necessary. It's the "not very serious" replies that make this forum entertaining. Plus being a natural born smartass, I rather enjoy it. Besides, who doesn't love bacon!
I've been saying I'm going to throw some corn on since I brought the egg home, just haven't done it yet. Thanks for the suggestion.

Glad I could help. I've learned a lot here on this site (and others) and I just try and give something back when I can.
