Here's the thing, the Thermapen has had more of an affect on improved cooking than the egg. That's mainly because you buy a $90 thermometer and you'd be dumb not to use it. That usage changes the mentality most have with cooking. Switching from internal temperature vs 60 minutes and off eliminates so many variables.
Have fun and we know you're not affiliated...you would have spelled it right if you were. :P
Congrats on the new purchase...you'll love it!Just a hack that makes some $hitty BBQ.... -

Congratulations on both the egg and the Thermopen my friend. I both use and recommend both products. The egg is a great cooker and the Thermopen is about as good as a thermometer as one could ask for. No harm in spreading the word. Again, congratulations and enjoy!!

Thanks SGH I value your opinion as you obviously are the quintessential egger!

Congrats, they are nice units. Though I am not so sure having one stepped my game up. I guess I am a little old school and use touch a lot for grilled items.------------------------------

My Thermapen is mostly used for poultry these days. I do encourage everyone to probe your meat, then touch it to see how your target temp feels. This will help your feel quite a bit.tarheelmatt said:Congrats, they are nice units. Though I am not so sure having one stepped my game up. I use the Thermapen daily for work. I also use egging. But, on certain things touch/feel is as good if not better (steak, scallops, lobster & then probe brisket and butts for like buttuh. I'm not knocking it but, don't get so caught up on a IT that you lose sight on the feel. Just my opinion and we all know what those are worth

I've found that I have ended more cooks safely with my Thermapen. Usually I'd want to overcook based on color. Never again lol!!

@DMW ya know I do industrial & commercial HVAC/R. I also still do a LOT of soft serve ice cream and slush machines. darndest thing I have to test it every time with my Thermapen for temp and then my taste buds for flavor and texture. Sometimes I have to test several times.

lol....that's not for a camopen!!!

Once you get used to it you'll find that your food has better overall texture and won't be over or under done. Next time you do steaks go ahead and use the Thermapen for IT BUT, also feel it and I think it will help your overall experience. Same goes with other items I described earlier. It's just a different feel is all.stv8r said:I've found that I have ended more cooks safely with my Thermapen. Usually I'd want to overcook based on color. Never again lol!!

@DMW Sonic does have good ice cream. I like Rita's Italian Ice gelati or Jeremiah's Italian Ice gelati. But, sonic has a pretty good cream slush. Or the specialties on the ice cream blasters.

We all thought you use touch cause your dog ate your last thermometer???LBGE (still waitin' for my free T-Shirt), DIgiQ DX2 (In Blue, cause it's the fastest), Heavy Duty Kick Ash Basket, Mc Farland, WI.

If it wasn't for my BGE I'd have no use for my backyard... -

She did, but did buy a Thermapen afterall. It is a great tool, but I don't see how it can up someone's game.------------------------------

I actually use mine more for coffee and tea. It's amazing how much better those are when you nail the proper water temp.

Amen on thermopen! DigiQ is the best.... for controlling the egg. Set it at 200 or 500 it will nail and hold it!BGE remotes work OK for low and slow.stv8r said:Well the first step was obviously the purchase of my LBGE. I love it so much! However, I soon realized that I needed another valuable tool....my Thermopen!!! Wooowww...This thing is amazing. It has stepped up my game exponentially. So quick and accurate. Cooking to temp is a whole new world. A beautiful, rewarding world. Don't hesitate to spring for the Thermopen (we know you can afford one if you bought an egg). Full disclosure...I am not affiliated in any way with Thermopen...I just love mine.

If that was a Ice Machine, i'd be jealous. Soft serve just doesn't get the motor running sir.NPHuskerFL said:
