No..... Because they are selling a ceramic grill that's green and has similar dimples. Clearly a trademark infringement if you ask me.
  • And how much did they want for that?

Not wanting to get in a Sunday night pissin contest, but what Darian was saying was tongue in cheek. The ceramic egg has been documented back to 3,000 years ago! Ed Fisher in Atlanta was importing clay Kamados from Japan for years before he began having the BGE mfg in 1974 and it has been copied again and again for years! When you have a successful product then copy cats happen. The strength is in the company and warranty after the cheap copy cat is carried out the door.

I don't think anyone is arguing the history of ceramic eggs. The point trying to be made is BGE has created and marketed a brand of ceramic eggs. It would be unfair and illegal for Another company to try and sell their ceramic egg using the same colors and likeness.
  • Saw this one some time ago.

If you look at your photo you will see an ash rake. I asked the seasonal guy at Lowe's how you raked the ash out when the lower vent did not remove or slide open enough to get the rake in. He said the new ones will have a removable vent cap. Great engineering. The real kicker is a 90 day warranty.

My neighbour got one at Lowes. It was $549 and the lower vent pulls out for cleaning. He calls it his "egg-a-like". It seems good for the money. He has trouble getting it real hot, not sure why, I haven't had a chance to play with it. He's happy but keeps saying its no egg!

  • I just found one here in St. Catharines, ON on Marketplace and it looks a lot like a BGE.
I went to look at it and the people selling it inherited it and didn’t know anything about it.
I am going to get it for cheap and see how it works and maybe I will keep it or I just might clean it up and flip it for a few extra dollars.
The issue is definitely the ash clean out, it looks like it may be a problem.
It is the same size as a large BGE about 18”.
First thing I noticed is the grill is not stainless steel and it is rusting. The interior design is not very good. Definitely a poor imitation of a BGE.
