So after an amazing weekend here in the great white north, where we were treated to pure sunshine and hot weather, I knew I had to have a delicious dinner. My wife completed her first ever triathlon this morning so I told her I would once again do up a nice dinner on the egg. For today's cook I used my large egg only. Tonight's menu was a sirloin roast, cedar planked garlic mashed potatoes (great idea by someone else on the forum), some green beans. Ill add some pics here in a minute but I should also mention last nights cook, even though I didn't get many pics. Last night I attempted my first homemade stuffed hamburgers. I stuffed the burgers with tomatoe, feta, onion, mushroom, and bacon. The burgers were amazing.

This pic Shows the smoke, but does not show how good it smelled! Can't beat cedar planks
The second pic shows the food on the egg. To note I cooked the roast indirectly until IT reached 130, and then I removed it and only out it back on to sear a little for the last 5 mins of the mashed potatoes.
This pic isn't the prettiest but it does show the smoke ring nicely.

This last two pics are from Saturday nights cook (stuffed burgers). Sorry I didn't take anymore,

Is your egg sitting right on the wooden shelf?My house burned down when the 2 inch paver brick it was sitting on cracked and allowed sufficient heat to char the wood underneath it...Best get something under there pronto.

Sorry to hear about your house. No my egg is not sitting on the wood directly. It is sitting on a 3 inch pad that came with my egg and table. It is completely safe. As for the small. Yes it is close to the house and yes I do worry. I normally pull it out away from the side of the house just to be safe! That is one benefit of the small it's much more portableChilliwack, BC, Canada

It is a hard rubber feeling material. To be honest I don't know how created it, I never thought of it till now. Pics was told when I purchased the egg and table from my dealer that the pad came with it and that it is completely fire proof so to make sure I place it under my egg and to never set the egg on the wood itself, Maybe the guy who built the table came up with the pad. I'm no expert, but you might still want to put another 2-3 inches of paver between your pad and the wood, with all I have read and know about table installation, it appears that you could use more room between the egg hole and egg, it is a wood table, you must maintain clearance all around of about 5/8".Raising the egg on pavers would accomplish both. If it was say a metal table your gap could be much smaller. But all that aside that looks like a wonderful cook, and am taking some notes!!

I don't mean to be critical at all, I just would hate to see anything bad happen to you, home or egg due to a fire. This is what I did, I feel around underneath during high temp cooks also, and use a infrared laser therm to look for hot spots. This is what I believe to be a safe set up, with proper gaps. If I am missing something I am open to corrections.

Here is a pic of the pad.. I was instructed by the dealer that it's fully fire resistant. Maybe I should have chose a different colour to make it easier to see. As for the egg in the hole, I'll try to do something about that to get more clearence all around. Chilliwack, BC, Canada -

Jwinn44 might be overly careful, but after a cook, take you hand and feel the underside of the wood shelf that the pad is sitting on. Fire resistant is good, but if it's transferring heat to the wood, be careful.Bx - > NJ ->TX!!!All to get cheaper brisket!
