Plate Setter Question

I have a plate setter that appears to be ceramic like the egg itself. I see that we should not get inside of the egg wet, so I am wondering about the plate setter. I see that some of you Seasoned Eggers hang them outside...they could get wet. By the time I'm done grilling and the egg cooling...I have forgotten I have a plate setter sitting out that...should it rain here in Central Texas (you never know), my plate setter could get saturated. What's the scoop on that...is it OK?

Don't know where you live. But if its full of moisture when winter hits it will break.

Getting a setter wet between cooks is not an issue, it will dry quickly when exposed to burning lump. A saturated setter will break if it is exposed to freezing temps just like @Eggdam notes.Eggdam said:Don't know where you live. But if its full of moisture when winter hits it will break.
During the cold winter days, toss your setter into the egg just before you snuff it to keep it dry.Delta B.C. - Whiskey and steak, because no good story ever started with someone having a salad! -
Suggest getting something to house all your Eggcessories in. I have a truck bed box sitting on the deck that holds lump, propane tank and weed burner, plate setter, and everything else. Cheap investment that keeps everything bone dry, as the box is made to be outside. It ran me like $150 from Harbor Fregiht. And it doubles as an extra seat.

I agree! I just use this big plastic container with lid and then push it back under my table to protect the PS & stone when not in use.500 said:Suggest getting something to house all your Eggcessories in.

@RRP -- I think that's a good idea for my circumstances. Thanks!

@Mickey -- looking at the lakes around here, you really wonder if it will rain again.

I'll be there @Mickey. Was actually thinking about going to the Eggfest in Atlanta since my son & DIL live there. Then I saw that it was $40/person and started to think twice. Does Salado charge entrance fees?

No fees at all to anyone. We would like to have you sign up as you need to be registered to win one of the 4 Minis we give away each year. I will never charge fees. That is just not right (IMO).Salado TX & 30A FL: Egg Family: 3 Large and a very well used Mini, added a Mini Max when they came out (I'm good for now). Just given a Mini to add to the herd. -
