I have been using my platesetter and grid extender for all cooks. It's time to upgrade a little...looking for best recommendations for AR, Woo, etc...I have an XL egg, and like having the ability to do multilevel, big, cooks; while still being able to do a single pizza, or two steaks! Open to all recommendations for best setup. Thanks!!

I have the large egg instead if the xlarge. But I bought the AR, spider and the Woo just to cover all bases. Also bought the plate setter, the oval stone and a round stone. With this set up you are prepared for any and everything. Hope this helps.

I have a large, but I bought the PSWoo and the spider so I could continue using my platesetter. I like my set-up just fine. I may end up buying an AR, but this set-up is great for what I'm doing. All I need is a grid extender.

@fusionhq Seems that I've heard nothing but, positives out of the AR and oval stone set-up.LBGE 2013 & MM 2014Die Hard HUSKER & BRONCO FANFlying Low & Slow in "Da Burg" FL

I like the AR and round stone.I am using the Platesetter in the medium but don't like it as much as the round stone as a heat deflector. The round stone seems to regulate heat better around the edges (for what its worth).Just my 2cXL BGE - Med BGE - Mini BGE - Traeger Pellet GrillsHillsboro OR

@NPHuskerFL @mcmac, thanks for the words. I have looked at the AR with round stone on CGS. @biggreenpharmacist thanks!
I am considering buying the AR and Woo as @SGH said...hmmm......

Brian, you really should just call Tom at CGS and work it out. I was going to purchase the AR and Woo, and he set me on the right path. I bought the AR and haven't missed the Woo one bit. I have a Woo for my small, so I understand the product very well.
Give @tjv a call and he will help you out. You won't meet a nicer and honest businessman.
I do a ton of briskets and ribs, so the oval stone is a must if you do those protiens. You can buy a round stone anywhere, but CGS is the only place I've seen selling the oval stones.Just a hack that makes some $hitty BBQ.... -
I just went with the woo for now since I already had the platesetter. Just didnt wanna spend an extra hundred bucks right now. The platesetter woo was perfect for my needs and i ordered spider to go with it. Like cazzy said, call tom.

Thanks @cazzy. I'll give him a call!

Yep, call Tom. For the record, on the XL you can use the XL AR with the Plate Setter. Or you can use the AR with Spider & Stone. Or you can just use AR with stones on the bottom.Just call Tom...

For the XL it's worth getting the AR Woo2 customer combo. I use both regularly. They function different than on the large. The woo gives you the stock 24" grid at about 1/2" below the grid line. While the ar puts an18" grid way up in dome. I use that setup the most but sometimes I value real estate over height. The woo also allows you to drop an 18" grid below the fire ring.XL, Small, Mini & Mini Max Green Egg, Shirley Fab Trailer, 6 gal and 2.5 gal Cajun Fryers, BlueStar 60" Range, 48" Lonestar Grillz Santa Maria, Alto Shaam 1200s, Gozney Dome, Gateway 55g Drum

I have the Woo2 and the AR for my XL. I think I could do without the AR on my XL. It does not buy me as much flexibility as it does on my large. First of all the XL is big enough that I rarely need the second level. I find the Woo2 essential as it is perfect for my raised direct cooking and WOKing. In retrospect, I think I should have bought the Woo2 and the 2nd level cooking grid from BGE for the XL. Just my 2 cents.XL BGE; Medium BGE; L BGE

Well F me...I just looked, that is completely different than the Large AR. #-oThatgrimguy said:For the XL it's worth getting the AR Woo2 customer combo. I use both regularly. Woo2 and AR on my XL. It really helps load one down. Just so you know the size those are spare ribs and a chicken breast.

@texaswig What all comes with the setup you have, and did you have to order any extras?
-
I just went to the store " a hour from my house" and talked with Tom. What's hard to see in the pic is the slide glide for the Oval grate. I also got a few more of those tie bars so it I want to just use the AR without the woo for smoking. The 18" stone and pan works with it also . any more questions ask away. If you need more pics of everything laid out. I can do that tomorrow.2-XLs ,MM,blackstone,Ooni koda 16,R&V works 8.5 gallon fryer, express smoker and 40" smoking cajun
