String Theory

Can anybody explain how to unravel the string on big bags of lump? I once saw a video and the guy who just pulled and the string disappeared and the bag opened.
I've been trying it for years and can't get it work.

Yep, untie the little knot in the right side, then pull, have it jam up, then grab a knife and carry on.They/Them

Not to get technical, but according to chemistry alcohol is a solution...

It doesn't work for all brands. Depends on how the bag was sealed.#1 LBGE December 2012 • #2 SBGE February 2013 • #3 Mini May 2013A happy BGE family in Houston, TX.

@henapple If I remember correctly you just yell at it and it jumps in the egg and lights itself, right? Doesn't seem to work that way for me, I've tried yelling louder and the neighbors looked at me funny. Then I realized it wasn't OO.They/Them

The best way to do it is just throw the whole bag and all into the egg. Don't worry about opening it. Saves on starter cubes.L x2, M, S, Mini and a Blackstone 36. She says I have enough now....eggAddict from MN!

Look for the side with the loose thread. I can open a bag quicker than with a knife.

Eggcelsior said:Look for the side with the loose thread. I can open a bag quicker than with a knife. So do you grab the loose thread? (no you don't, I know). What DO you grab?I have three degrees but it was only last year I figured out how to use a tie-down strap; I do NOT want to die before figuring out this damn bag string!!!X(___________

There is a looped side and a single string side. On the single string side, find the end with the loose thread and pull it through the first loop. Then continue to pull on the string and it comes off of the bag. Easy.

Thanks much Eggcelsior, will give it a try tomorrow!___________

@Botch, when pulling through the first loop, you are "untying" or unraveling it, rather than pulling on it straight away. After it's out, pull away. I reread what I wrote and just wanted to clarify. This video is a good example:

I flip the flap just enough to expose some stitching and then Willy Nilly razor knife the string. It achieves the same result as getting "lucky" w/ the string pull.LBGE 2013 & MM 2014Die Hard HUSKER & BRONCO FANFlying Low & Slow in "Da Burg" FL
