Nope... And if I thought there was a chance of that, I hardly would have thrown a $37/lb ribeye on there like that. Seriously, give it a try and enjoyJRWhitee said:You don't taste the ashes?

Hey Hap , what temp do you get your egg before throwing them on?Peachtree City, Ga Large BGE

@hapster
Just curious. Do you prefer the taste of the steaks cooked on the coals vs ones cooked on a grid or do you just prefer the method if you will? For all the things I have tried and experimented with I have never put a hunk of meat literally in the coals. If there is a difference in taste is it a big improvement over the grid ?Location- Just "this side" of Biloxi, Ms.

The egg is around 450 when I stir up the lump to get the best bed for laying the steaks on it.Kosko said:Hey Hap , what temp do you get your egg before throwing them on?

Having done this a few times now; I prefer both the method and the results. I think the crust that forms creates a much better overall taste when eating the steaks, more beef like if you will.SGH said:@hapster

Bah Gawd those steaks looked amazing. I need to try the caveman style soon. Love the pic of your egg looking sadly at the deck outside. Whisper in her ear "soon my love....soon".Firing up the BGE in Covington, GA
