Garlic and S&P is all you need for tri-tip. I've only cooked one once, but it came out really good.Steven

I never had it until I got the egg but have quickly fallen in love with Tri-Tip. You just don't see it much here in the SE.

I also just use salt and pepper on a Tri Tip since the meat has so much flavor.

I have turned nearly every grocery store upside down around here and can't find tri-tip steak anywhere.

I'm partial to the roasts and usually marinate overnight in a strong bloody mary mix. I usually add extra horseradish to the marinade. Costco in TX used to carry the steaks but they've had the roasts for the past several years.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER -
No one carried them up here either, so I talked to the meat manager at a couple of stores and they ordered some for me. They did so well that one of the stores now carries it from time to time.corey24 said:I have turned nearly every grocery store upside down around here and can't find tri-tip steak anywhere.

It's popalar in the West, especially in California and I've heard much of the tri-tip cuts get shipped out west. For you that are in the eastern part of the states, try looking at a local butcher shop where they buy meat from local ranchers.Steven

Yeah, maybe I should talk to a meat manager. I even looked at Sam's yesterday. You can buy them online at some of the fanstcy meat places but they want to charge a fortune for them. That's sort of the love of tri-tip is it's a cheaper cut with a great taste. I've never even had one.....

In many markets, tri-tip gets ground into burger meat.

I grew up in Texas and we know a few things about beef, but I had never heard of Tri-Tip until I became and Egghead. I think most of the Tri-Tip cuts in Texas become ground sirloin hamburger.
Now that I am an Egghead and know what to look for, or ask the butcher Tri-Tip is one of my all time favorite meals.
