I see they used the wood handle egg and not the plastic one. Hummm maybe wood is coming back.

I love that magazine. Apparently, BGE went back to wood after the backlash.

All the demo eggs last weekend at the Bone Daddy Classic had wood handles. Smart move by BGE. Now only if they would listen about the green feet

I didn't realize that they ever had plastic handles. I bought my large in December 2012, and it has the big wooden handle. Was the plastic after this?

Definitely back to wood handle after customer / dealer complaints. This per my Ace Hdwe Toco Hills (N.E. Atlanta). Bought my LBGE about 6 weeks ago, wood handle, New stock. If you're seeing plastic these days it's older stock during the plastic period I suppose.

The last year or so they switched to a plastic handle. Very cheap looking. The wood handle is much classier in my opinion

I'm the lucky winner of a plastic handle. Can you get the wood ones?

magazines, commercials, bge's are getting some exposure!

i have the plastic as well, wood handle would be alot nicer. Maybe i'll replace mine with a wooden one when the plastic gives up.

The benefit of the plastic is that they clean up much easier and withstand outdoor elements much better. I think that's what BGE was going for when switching them over. Wood looks nice but only lasts so long before it starts looking their age.

I hear what you're saying, but their decision to do this did not make a whole lot of sense to me. It's interesting that the mothership really does not use this forum at all to test the waters on new product ideas, because I'm pretty sure plastic handles would have been shot down very quickly.

When I was in the mothership recently, and 3 people came in to get new handles.  They just swapped them out.  Might be worth a call.

On a side note, great to see all the Georgia folks on here!  Glad I've got a big base of people who are local to lean on with questions!

I don't get this either. Isn't plate setter trademarked? All other companies call the similar device a heat deflector.

It is a stupid name. They were totally overthinking and forcing it. Unlike "iPad" (which I hated that name at first when it was rumored to be called that), ConvEGGtor will never be easy or smooth to say in conversation.

If you cook enough on the egg, the creosote and charcoal dust will coat the handle and preserve it. My handle is almost black. My pizza peel has a wooden handle, lives outside, and doesn't show any signs of rotting after 3 years.
