All of the positive feedback is appreciated.
@ Henapple - "Vent Buddy" is pretty cool!

I'm with the other guys, you need to patent, market and manufacture or sell the idea to someone who wants to take on the task! That is very very cool!! You would sell a bunch of those. The coolest part is no fan.Bristow Virginia XL&Mini One of the best feelings in life is watching other people enjoy the food I cooked!

Amazing. How do I get one?

That tis pretty awesome-This is what I use---Of course it is still a manual control, but if I need to get the temp up quick, it works wellVisalia, Ca @lkapigian

It's a substantially heuristic model rooted in PID, I think is the best way to describe it.Cowdogs said:

Thank you for the complements, and for checking out the video.

Encouraging words.
I too like the no-fan aspect, thanks for your feedback.

PID is the way to go. I built my first sous vide (fish tank) rig with one. I have a few spares in the shop for when I need to put in some controls for an oven. I've been powder coating lately with a motorcycle project.

Very awesome! I was actually just looking at attempting to build the HeaterMeter (don't kill me for this link, http://tvwbb.com/showthread.php?35674-HeaterMeter-v4-0-for-RaspberyPi-Standalone), but this is customized for the BGE, which I love! It's great that it uses a PID(-ish) controller, you can see it start to close when it is approaching the target temp so it doesn't overshoot. Excellent.
Are you planning on releasing design docs, spec sheets, and code under GPL? Either way, very awesome job and I'm sure this must have been very rewarding for you to do!

You must not have watched the video. This is amazing! Great job man._______________________________________________XLBGE -
Hey Reinhart, make this a kickstarter project so we can chip in to get you up and running with a production model. That's got real potential. I'd contribute if you set it up as a kickstarter.Oh, after watching the video again, I'd call it the wiggler.XL Owner

"The Wiggler" !! That's great. It occurred to me that in real-time, it mostly looks like it isn't doing anything, so maybe it should be "The Sloth" or something..ElCapitan said:Hey Reinhart, make this a kickstarter project so we can chip in to get you up and running with a production model. That's got real potential. The outside of my bge gets pretty hot to the touch...any concern about melting the insulation on the wires that come in contact?Making the neighbors jealous in Pleasant Hill, Ia one cook at a time...

A very good question. I was concerned when I first started, and looked into insulating high-temp shrink tube. Then I discovered that the grill simply doesn't get hot enough to cause trouble.Mike_the_BBQ_Fanatic said:The outside of my bge gets pretty hot to the touch...any concern about melting the insulation on the wires that come in contact?
If you ran it at 500 for a few hours, it's possible that there could be an issue. However, you only need the controller when you're doing long cooks, which always correspond to temperatures less than 375 or so (in my experience).
Thank you for the comment!

What an awesome project. Love that battery power is an option. Where can I get one?Brewer, BBQer, Softballer, RCer, Father, HomeTheaterer, and trouble maker.Orange, CA

Thanks man! Sadly, only two exist at the moment. The response has been positive enough on this that I may check into producing a small lot of them and making them available.BREWnQ said:What an awesome project. Love that battery power is an option. Where can I get one?

Nice project; I hope you make them available.
Be cool to make that work with the vent caps. Then the original DW could stay unmodified for when a person wants to cook old school.

Bravo Eric! I have the mechanical skills to build the damper, but my two EE courses in college didn't give me enough smarts to build the controller. Love the DIY effort! :-bd
