Meat slicer recommendations?
Alphonse
Posts: 80
I have a batch of bacon curing and am looking forward to its completion and the need to slice it. Also think it would be nice to have a slicer for other meats, etc.
Looking for your experience with slicer and recommendations. Thx

Highly recommend going of Craig's List and looking for a smaller commercial unit. Like one with a 9 or 10 inch blade. You can get them for under $200. You can get a new one for under $500. Chef's choice makes a good one you can get for under $400I just bought a used Globe Chefmate C9 for $175 on Craig's List. They are $700 new.Keepin' It Weird in The ATX FBTX

lots of guys on here have this model or something very similar. It seems to be highly recommended. You will want to get one with a metal body if you are going to use it frequently. The plastic bodies don't hold up to the force of pushing things like bacon through and they give uneven, kind of wavy slices after some use. They also have a plastic piece that holds the blade in that loosens over time that create uneven slices. Honestly though, there are lots of guys on here that have those and love them too. For home use they are probably fine.If you are going to do deli meats and things like that, You'll want to get the additional non-serrated edge if you buy this model. I think for $120, this is a good place to start. Next step up would be something like I got on CL or the $369 version in the link I posted above.Keepin' It Weird in The ATX FBTX

Here is the one I bought for $175. This is the cheapest new one I have seen anywhere so if you want a "life-timer" and don't mind spending $500, this is a great deal.Keepin' It Weird in The ATX FBTX

You will love it. I looked and I paid 89 for it back in Aug of 2011.Did you order the other blade for it? You will need it for meatJefferson .GA.Been egging since 1985 on a medium egg

They had a package deal with the smooth blade and lube, went with that. I also got the 615, $20 more but it had a more powerful motor, and since starting to read Charcuterie this weekend I see a lot of slicing in my immediate future…

I bought a lower priced one just to start out and see how I like it and how much ill use it. I paid $59.99 on Black Friday. I couldn't afford to spend 300-500$$ right now and saw some people getting good home use out of a smaller one.
I sliced a 10 lbs pork loin Friday in a matter of minutes and was extremely pleased.

It's a 7.5 inch and I can already see that a bigger blade and some other features are needed in the long run. But for what I paid ok extremely pleased with my purchase and will just try homemade deli meat for now.
