Another Pork Butt on the Mini... (w/Pics)

I have been itching to do this ever since i got my Mini... Its a 4lb bone in butt coated with mustard and BBBR. I plan to cook at 350 until IT is 160, then wrap in foil to get to 200. Pretty basic turbo cook.
Egg setup is the Woo ring with 8" pizza stone from Amazon wrapped in foil. The butt was tall enough that I had to remove the dome thermometer and use the Maverick. Hoping to have a juicy butt for supper...
Thanks for looking,
-Josh

Go mini go! Are you using a drip pan? The couple of times I did a turbo butt, they seemed to sweat like crazy, but those were larger cuts.#1 LBGE December 2012 • #2 SBGE February 2013 • #3 Mini May 2013A happy BGE family in Houston, TX.

No drip pan... It didn't sweat at all until I wrapped with foil. I just unwrapped it and put it back on the grill. It was at 190 IT. Hoping it will form a little bark in the last 10 degrees or so without the foil...SBGE December 2012 • XLBGE December 2013 • Yoder YS640 JulyLocation: Jasper, Georgia

Well, the Green Egg gods are trying my patience today...After I unwrapped the butt and put it back on the Egg, the IT immediately started falling. down to 183 now and holding... Its got to start coming back up eventually...:-wSBGE December 2012 • XLBGE December 2013 • Yoder YS640 JulyLocation: Jasper, Georgia

My past attempts probably sweat that much because I didn't wrap. That explains it.#1 LBGE December 2012 • #2 SBGE February 2013 • #3 Mini May 2013A happy BGE family in Houston, TX.

Alrighty... This was my first butt on the mini, so I will call it a learning experience. This particular butt was only 4lbs and the first one I have ever cooked that wasn't whole. On the whole it was good, but there were parts of it that were way overdone, then there were parts of it that wouldn't pull. I am not sure whether to attribute this to the smaller butt or slightly fluctuating temps in the Mini (I had a hard time controlling the temp. Ranged from 315-400.) In any case, I chopped it up and it was still pretty good. Without further banter from me, here are the pics:SBGE December 2012 • XLBGE December 2013 • Yoder YS640 JulyLocation: Jasper, Georgia

Not BGE gods just plain ole science. Wrapping in foil keeps in the moisture and when you put the cut back on the egg the temp drop because of evaporation of the liquid.Large, small and mini now Egging in Rowlett Tx -
Question did you run with the bottom vent opened the entire cook? Just wondering.Large, small and mini now Egging in Rowlett Tx

Thanks. Phil

I ran the bottom vent about half closed most of the time.SBGE December 2012 • XLBGE December 2013 • Yoder YS640 JulyLocation: Jasper, Georgia
