Egg seeping through? Never seen anything like this?

I have a co-worker that is not too tech savvy, so he asked me to post this for him. His large egg appears to be seeping through just under the bands (yes, he knows he needs new bands). I have never seen anything like this on the base. Sometimes my large will sweat black fluid out the top, but never through the ceramic. Any ideas of what could be causing this and/or how to stop it?

Mind sweats like a fat man at the beach, it's fine. Or mine has been, hopefully his will be tooHFX NS

I think mine had the sweats after some long hard rains and inactivity. I would say use it two or three times and see if it persists.

Hmmm I bet he needs new a new gasket. Almost positive. He also must leave it outside in the rain and all types of weather by the looks of those bandsJefferson .GA.Been egging since 1985 on a medium egg

I say gasket or its not seated right. Top band in tact where as the lower one is trashed. Any more pics?LBGE& SBGE———————————————•———————– Pennsylvania / poconos

Yes, his gasket is shot, but I don't see how a worn out gasket would cause the seeping fluid through the ceramic? Location is N. Florida and it is outside 100% of the time, uncovered. If it ain't a CAT, it's a dog!!! 2 LBGE's & BGE Backyard Chef Edition Cart

Yes that will happen if its outside and not used often. My XL is normally covered but wasn't for a couple weeks and when I used it last week it had water come through the pores.

I never had one sweat like that in 34 years. Dripping down from the ceramic top yes but not through the poresJefferson .GA.Been egging since 1985 on a medium egg

I've seen this:I've found it only happens if the egg sits out in the rain, even then after a few cooks it stops.Near San Francisco in California

Looks like creosote to me. Does the stuff smell like liquid smoke?Bad gasket, a small amount of air, and smoldering from an attempted shutdown could create creosote.I had a wood stove that destroyed the seals on the door about every year and it would create huge amounts of creosote when you attempted to shut it down via this smoldering. New seals would straighten it out every time.Alan in LA (Lower Alabama that is)"If you must choose between two evils, pick the one you've never tried before!"
