Here are some skewers that will work for tandoori, I also use the for Turkish Adana and shish kabob. No wood handle means that it will not burn.
They can either be used vertically or , on my large, are layed across the base direct with heat around 500F-550F. Be careful of flash back. turn the skewers once half way into the cook weather horizontal cooking or vertical. These will work on all BGEs eggcept the Xlrg due to length.

Thanks everyone, I just got some flat metal skewers, now just need to figure out the best way to position them in my XL. I'd like to fashion a vertical holder of some sort if possible.They/Them

What type of flat skewers did you get. Try arranging the charcoal around the fire grate and use the holes in it as a place to put the tips if the size and length work.

The BGE is very similar to a tandoor. Here is how I tend to do tandoori chicken on the egg:http://eggheadforum.com/discussion/1148043/quick-tandoori-chicken. I still prefer the end result from my tandoor, but the egg is just more convenient. If you have an XL, try to set up some bricks on the top grate so that the top of the bricks are in line across the grid and level with the felt line. That way you can rest the tip of the skewers on the bricks and the other end rests on the gasket, with the handle of the skewers outside the egg. @Richard_Fl has an impressive setup for vertical cooking - that ceramic disk is pure genius! If you can find @Aviators thread, he had a pretty good solution too. If you have 4' long skewers (like the ones from Nishi Enterprise, you can try doing a whole chicken vertically with the top of the skewer going out of the top vent. Placing more than 2 skewers vertically through the top vent is like threading a needle and a pain in the butt. Some folks have done naan on the egg with good results (@travisstrick, @Dyal_SC too I think, among others). Naan will take some trial and error, depending on how much of a stickler you are.Good luck and let us know how it turns out. We want pics!#1 LBGE December 2012 • #2 SBGE February 2013 • #3 Mini May 2013A happy BGE family in Houston, TX.

@caliking One more question, so you just use a whole bird and cut it up into pieces?They/Them

I usually do legs and thighs, because that's what we like to eat, but you can do a whole chicken or a whole chicken cut into pieces. I would separate the pieces so that breast pieces end up on one skewer and dark meat on another, since the breast pieces will cook faster.#1 LBGE December 2012 • #2 SBGE February 2013 • #3 Mini May 2013A happy BGE family in Houston, TX.
