Most likely a legal issue so he has to use generic terms, you see it a lot of times on other shows that they can't name the specific product like he is drinking a cola but you know by the shape of the bottle that it is Coca-Cola.

Watched the same episode and have always thought it was about $ and not getting any endorsement from bge. But, did you also notice that he uses regular charcoal in place of lump?
-
Yea I saw that also,
-
I watch a lot of Bobby Flay, and he's really good at some things, but he don't know Jack squat about BBQ. It's very clear if you watch him. Everything from using water pans in the egg, to soaking the smoke wood, etc., just a lack of understanding on his part...Packerland, Wisconsin

Brought to you by weber and kingsford.
-
He did not use regular charcoal in the egg. The editing made it look like it, but they did show one view inside the egg just before he inserted the platesetter. The clips of regular charcoal were from the Weber where he was grilling sweet potatoes.
-
All ceramic cookers with similar designs cook similarly. Calling it the generic name is fine.

Just watched the Southern Style BBQ episode last night. He made ribs with a root beer BBQ sauce on the XL. He added a big pan of water under the plate setter. It was lump charcoal though. And there was tape on the handle covering the Egg logo. It has to be about the dollar bills why he doesn't say the name.
I like my butt rubbed and my pork pulled.

It could be Food Network policy. I don't think you can lay it all on Flay.Flint, Michigan

Just another reason to only watch Giada. The main reason is obvious.

I guess I just don't see the problem with calling a ceramic cooker a ceramic cooker. 8-|
Every time my elbow bends my mouth flies open. -
I seen the same show with the jerk pork and he does use lump, the editing made it look like briquetts but there was lump in the egg also I believe he has a deal with weber and I am sure that would prevent him from talking positive about any other cookers.Charlotte, Michigan XL BGE

He talks up his charcoal grill with the elevator and the box with the coals on top but as far as I know, he hasn't mentioned their manufacturer's name. Could simply be easier to NOT mention them by name. Fine with me because the BGE is either known or unknown to the viewer. At least he is using one on the show. Not necessarily like we would use it, but using it nonetheless.
I'm just not a big fan of some of the stuff he cooks on the show. I guess going to lots or eggfests and eating some really, REALLY, good food, I'm a bit biased.
I'm sure too that he doesn't do 'everything' himself on the show. Even so, the boy can cook. That's for sure.
But I keep telling myself he only has thirty minutes. Eighteen minutes when you take out the commercials and lead-in/out time. About the only thing I can cook in 18 minutes is mini pizzas and steaks in that time.

@Aviator sorry, I just don't find her very attractive and she annoys me so I change the channel when she comes on. I can't stand her.

He may not know BBQ as well as some, but he is about the last person left on Food Network who can really cook. It is amazing how horrid that channel has become.

Flay loves him his Santa Maria grill.
I enjoy watching Flay cook. However, I agree that Giada can come to my kitchen and flour my rolling pin anytime she'd like!
Back to Bobby Flay, one of the best chicken breasts I ever cooked was this recipe I used. I let the chicken sit in the buttermilk for ~24 hours and instead of deep frying it, I lightly patted the chicken after taking it out of the buttermilk, sprinkled dry rub on them and tossed them on the Egg that had a 400* dome temp, direct, with just a little bit of hickory chips tossed in. If I were to do that again, I'd try dusting the chicken with corn starch to get the skin crispy.

Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

He also should get a thermapen

Chef Michael Smith of Food Network Canada has one and he calls it a Big Green Egg. Doesn't know how to use it really well but calls it by name.
