Can you use the pizza stone for indirect set-up ? Will the intense heat damage it or is it still made to the same specs as the plate setter?

Of course it can.

Just beware of which stone you use. Most here (including me) have had very good luck with the BGE stone. A little more expensive (as with most products directly from Mother Egg) but seems to be worth it. Some - especially Pampered Chef - have had cracking issues.

Go with a stone from ceramicgrillstore. Works great and cheaper than BGE stone.

I use the BGE XL stone and the XL half moon stone a lot to do indirects. No issues.
