Wood Chips/ Chunks storage

Do you keep your chip or chunks in their factory bags for storage, or do you place then in a small tupper ware container for neater storage capabilities? If you store them in tupper ware, does the container have to "breath" like the factory bags?

I keep mine in the bags and just roll them down as needed. When they get low, I stick the bag into an old cat food bucket(like 4 gallons) with other stuff so I don't have a bunch laying about.
  • I keep mine in white 5 gal. plastic buckets stored in the garage.

Well, "spa-Peggy" is kind of like spaghetti. I'm not sure what Peggy does different, if anything. But it's the one dish she's kind of made her own.

    Another for the original bags.

@Dave in Florida what do your labels say, that's some serious smoking wood. I have 5 bags right now and they would all fit in one of those tubs

Go to the fruitawood.com website.  They say keep them in fridge or dig a hole and put a bucket down in the hole.

I buy my wood there, but just keep it in the box in a dark corner of my basement.

I keep them in shoe boxes under my table. Fruitwoods in one, hardwoods in one, pellets and amazen smoker in a third. It doesn't rain here often and my egg is at the high point of the yard so I don't worry about it getting wet. My dealer sells chunks in boxes so I usually just leave those alone until gone.

+1 for original bags inside a Tupperware container.

  • Thanks for all the advise guys! Especially you Duganboy, thanks for that website. Very informative! I can only imagine how many of their chunks of wood you get in their 10lb bag ;)

fruitawood is good stuff.  Their chunks are large.

I've stored mesquite for years in my basement.  When the summer hits, I'll move the fruit wood down there too.  Wife wood kill me if I took over the fridge to store wood.

My wife tried to kill me for storing beer in the fridge.

That's why I bought a second fridge for the basement. Much cheaper than surgery, in my book.

I had a small second fridge downstairs.  My son took it to college.  I believe it still stores beer.

Thumbs up for that set-up. As long as the containers are under a covered area, no objections to keeping it outside?
