Grilled Mussels and Shrimp

A bag of mussels caught my eye at Central Market today. Didn't have a recipe in mind and didn't look like enough for a meal by itself, so also grabbed some shrimp. Threw the mussels directly on the grill for about 3 minutes until they were all open. I dusted the shrimp with DP Raging River and grilled those direct. Ate with a kale salad we grabbed from CM. A hodgepodge meal but sure was tasty.

I haven't had them off the grill yet I am going to have to try that

Have not tried cooking muscles on the egg yet, hmmm...DavidBBQ since 2010 - Oh my, what I was missing.

They were easy to grill and tasty, but next time I'll prepare a little better and have a nice white wine & garlic mixture to pour over them when they come off. I like that better than a butter dipping sauce.LBGE & SBGE. Central Texas.

Better yet have your garlic/wine/butter in a low sided dish and cook together in the egg.Salado TX & 30A FL: Egg Family: 3 Large and a very well used Mini, added a Mini Max when they came out (I'm good for now). Plus a couple Pit Boss Pellet Smokers.

I've never straight up grilled mussels. How did they turn out? What temp and time?
Usually we cook them with some wine, chicken broth, maybe some bacon, shallots, tomatoes. Maybe some red curry paste. Basically develop a good broth for bread dippin'

@Griffin - they were good, but I I usually cook similar to what you describe (indoors) and prefer that. I did these raised direct, dome was about 425.LBGE & SBGE. Central Texas.

The garlic and white wine sounds great, not to mention @Griffin 's red curry version. SWMBO loves mussels, so maybe I'll surprise her one of these days. Thanks!#1 LBGE December 2012 • #2 SBGE February 2013 • #3 Mini May 2013A happy BGE family in Houston, TX.
