I'm headed to Austin tonight with a few guys from work. Looking for some recommendations for places to eat. I believe Salt Lick is on the schedule already.
Suggestions?

I am a big fan of Chuy's. Also like Quero's. Austin also has some of the best trailer food around. These are not high dollar places. Are you still going to be in the area on the 16th?Salado TX & 30A FL: Egg Family: 3 Large and a very well used Mini, added a Mini Max when they came out (I'm good for now). Plus a couple Pit Boss Pellet Smokers.

My nephew is a chef at "Barley Swine". It's been featured on Anthony Bourdan's show "No Reservations". The owners 2 favorite things are beer and pork...hence the name. It is somewhat upscale (in case you're not looking for that) and its a small venue...so there will be a wait. There are some unique things on the menu....including bacon ice cream.PROUD MEMBER OF THE WHO DAT NATION!

Fanklins is on the east side of 35 near downtown about 9st if i remember right and has great Q. Its not a sit down resturant though.
Rockwall Texas, just east of Dallas where the humidity and heat meet! Life is too short to get caught in the fast lane behind somebody slow!

You have got to hit up Franklin Barbecue. Best brisket in the world.
-
They have tables inside and outside. You have got to get there early though...just realized you said you are going there "tonight"... They will be sold out by then. You've got to get in line by 9 or 10 AM if you want to eat there. :(
Here's the brisket I had at Franklin... The juiciness was spot on.... Sausage was great too. -
Arrive late tonight, fly out on Thurs afternoon. Would love to check out Franklins, but not sure i can spare the time in the morning.

I really enjoyed Foreign and Domestic it was on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives and was on my list once I saw that episode. It ended up being my 50th DDD spot and was worthy of the milestone. The popovers are so good! My friend who I got to go with me is going to buy the pan for me so I can try and recreate them. I got the Fideo and it was great too.Austin Daily Press was on the first season of the Great Food Truck Race and have a trailer out on 6th st and a brick in mortar place. Their sandwiches are cheap and very good.Luke's Inside Out was on my list but I didn't make it this trip.I live in Oklahoma but used to travel for work and find awesome restaurants wherever I go.Large & Small BGE, CGW Two-Tier Swing Rack for BOTH EGGS, Spider for the Wok, eggCARTen & and Cedar Pergola my Eggs call home in Edmond, OK.

Agree with CPARKTX, Fonda San Miguel is very good -
Do you like Indian food?
If you want to go somewhere really cool with an authentic laid back Austin hipster vibe I strongly suggest a visit to The G'Raj Mahal on a pleasant evening. Near downtown and they have outdoor tables...is BYOB or wine.

Wanted to let everyone know where I ended up eating! Trip was cut short so I only had 3 meals of note. 1. Lunch at Freebird's World Burrito. Best Burrito I've ever had. 2. Dinner at the Salt Lick - Sausage and Peach Cobbler were the high notes. Brisket was really good. Don't care for Texas style pork ribs I guess 3. Dinner at Guero's - combo platter. Awesome food. LOVED the Salsa Verde. Austin is a kick-ass town. Would have loved to see it last weekend during SXSW. Will definitely make a point of visiting for a long weekend on my own time

Told you Quero's was good. Did you notice the group of trailers across and just down the street? They are very good as well.Salado TX & 30A FL: Egg Family: 3 Large and a very well used Mini, added a Mini Max when they came out (I'm good for now). Plus a couple Pit Boss Pellet Smokers.

+1 on Franklins if you have the time to wait in line and are there when they are open.
