Help with staining table
GBC
Posts: 58
I recently purchased an egg, package deal where it came with a large table and various accessories. The table has a red tent to it, which I really don't care for. I would like for the table to be darker. I have started sanding the stain over, however I don't whether I should sand the table down to bare wood, or leave the hard to remove areas so that it can have some undertones of the pervious stain. I'm wondering if these harder to stain off areas would add a nice streaked area or will it look like crap? I hope this makes sense.

Try a test spot on the backside to see for yourself if you like the results. You can always sand and do over.

What kind of stain? If it is an outdoor deck type stain, or a varnish of some kind then you'll want to sand it. The stain won't absorb in the wood and will delaminate if you don't sand it smooth.Mark Annville, PA

If I sand it smooth will the natural grain waves in the wood show through darker?

Possibly. It could give you a really cool look.Mark Annville, PA

I'll keep my mouth shut and just read; I've ruined more woodworking projects with stain... :(_____________
