Que Calendar 2013 - My Year in Pictures

I take lots of pictures for use on my website. Every year I use Apple's iPhoto to create a calendar of my cooks in the previous 12 months-in this case from 11/2011 thru 10/2012. The first year I did it just for me and I never expected it to be of interest to anyone else. The calendar is uploaded via iPhoto to Apple where it gets printed on glossy stock and is spiral bound. It looks just like a calendar you'd buy at Barnes & Noble. After the first year several people who saw my 2006 calendar liked it and asked me about getting a copy the second year. At first it was family, then friends and finally even some co-workers. Frankly I was quite surprised, but evidently there are more food porn addicts than I suspected. This year is looking to be a run of 10 calendars that I know of now.

I just finished building the calendar in iPhoto and exported a copy to print out & proof before uploading to Apple. Since I know there are a lot of food porn addicts around here, I figured I'd post the pictures for each month here. As always you can see more pictures in the photo galleries on my website.

Whew !  When I saw you on the cover, I was afraid you were going to be the "model" in all of the months - kinda like the firemen do.

Thanks for your kind words guys.

@Griffin: Yes time does fly. I used to pick out potential cooks to use  only to find they'd happened 2 or 3 years ago. Now before I start picking I just set a filter for the last 365 days.

@Village Idiot: ROTFL. I can guarantee you that the only Boston Butt, pulled pork, breasts etc. you will see in one of my calendars will come from a pig or a chicken. Oh and to nip a potential comeback in the bud: I am not a pig no matter what you may have heard.

Great stuff. I think lots of Eggers must think so, too, because when I tried to get more than 1 close-up view I received an error. For 'Q, if you're lookin', its not cooking. But for Q' pics, looking means the server is cookin'.

Which came first the chicken or the egg?  I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

JFM - Wow - everything looks great!

I've gotta say it though before somebody else does....  October's New York Strip looks awefully... umm.... phallic.

Excellent looking cooks, and a Calendar that I'd gladly put up in my garage.

Thanks again, you guys are way  too kind.

@Village Idiot: I forgot to mention this when I made my original reply. If you think about how calendars are used....My picture on the cover is facing the wall and is invisible the whole time the calendar is in use. That wasn't by accident. People were telling me to put my picture on the calendar so this was how I made them happy and made me happy.

@BRush00: Never noticed that. The recipe is called N.Y. Strip Steaks with Horseradish Sauce. Kinda makes me glad I put the big dab of horseradish sauce at the bottom of the plate and that it blends in with the potatoes. In fact due to the shape of it's picture well on the calendar, it is cropped somewhat.

Thanks DAWG. This one is out of the BGE Cookbook. I don't post recipes that aren't freely available on the internet and I couldn't find this one on the BGE website. But I believe if you go to Amazon.com and search for the BGE Cookbook you may just be able to use the "look inside" link and search for "quiche". The recipe came up for me when I did this.

Way cool. Thanks for the idea.  I usually use far side calendars to log my company car milage, but Larson is not doing them any more, might try my hand at this.

This reminds me, I will throw out a tip to Mac Aperture users wanting to use these calendars from iPhoto. I started using Apple's Aperture several years ago for my photo management needs and one thing Aperture DIDN'T do was calendars. The last couple years I exported photos out of Aperture and imported them into a new iPhoto library.

Recent versions of iPhoto & Aperture use a shared library format. So all you have to do is launch iPhoto and there is a command to View the Aperture library. I simply made a new album in iPhoto and dragged in photos from the Aperture library browser. Saved several steps and was easier.

jfm They should put your quiche picture with the recipe in the book (they don't have one) if it had been in there I would have tried it by now! Thanks

Thanks DAWG. That was actually my first ever piecrust, and I used a slightly larger pie plate than the recipe suggested (9 1/2 vs. 9 oz.). As a result between the two of us I wasn't real happy with the results of the piecrust. Before we submit that picture I'd like to take another crack at the piecrust. Thanks for your kind words.

I've not made a calendar, but I did use Apple to make a photo book (nature photography) for my Mom and sister; soon everyone in the extended family wanted one.  (got a bit expensive!)

We made a cool book about one of our cats that got printed and delivered to us via some web application.  Got it free from Coke rewards points (don't ask - SWMBO has many complex agendas)  I think you blew our cat adulation experiment away with that calendar, Jim. I'm jealous.

    Once again thanks to all!

It occurred to me that some of you might like to see more. While I am not going to post them here, they are available in the Calendars section on my site. There are calendars going back to 2007. Click on the thumbnail for the year you are interested in and it will bring up a photo entry page with thumbnails of the 12 months and the cover. Clicking on a thumbnail will bring up a slideshow. You can use the left & right arrow keys to manually move through the pictures or click on the play button to start the slideshow. Here is the link:
