8.8 Pound Bags of Lump

The first time I bought Publix lump it was so small and dusty I didn't buy anymore until the local Malwart ran out of RO. These two bags of lump both say 8.8 lb. The RO bag is 'bigger' than the Publix bag. Whyz that? Does that tell me that RO gets 'first cut' and Publix gets the crumbs? Is Publix lump packed into the bag tighter? The only other lump I've used is a 20 lb. bag of BGE, so that does't compare. Not much else to complain about ....

Are the two brands furnished by the same supplier? I know that this board says RO and BGE charcoal come from the same supplier, but I have never heard Publix brand discussed.

Some lumps are more dense than others which could explain the difference in bag size. Did you weigh both bags to see if they vary from their advertised weight?
