Dome won't stay up on cold BGE

This is a normal happening.
I open my BGE with intentions of cooking like Bobby Flay. I lift the dome to inspect how much lump I have inside. Slowly and ever so gently the dome starts to close. I lift it again and again and finally it stays. Coals loaded in and lighter is in place. Lid still eases down. I get the fire going and I shut the dome. No problem. 10 minutes later when the fire is hot and I'm ready to pull out the starter, I open the dome and it stays open with no issue.
So my question is this, is there a reason my dome won't stay open when the BGE is cold?

Performance anxiety?
Ok just spit out my drink! FUNNY! -
My only thought would be that you have it in a table and the Egg is sitting too deep, so that the posterior hinge mechanism is hitting the table top.

FxLynch, that's good, but it's not that at all. I made sure with the table that all hardware was away from the wood. *This baby can get hot!Large BGE as of Father's day '12 http://www.jwhit.com

Is the egg sitting level?
-
Good question, I ran out to confirm that it's level. It's slightly off. Not a wood-tech guy, but I'd guess maybe a smidge (scientific term). But if I'm reading it right the table is a leaning back just that tiny bid. So I'd think it would stay open and not shut.About to tighten down the bolts today, since I'm not cooking today, to see if that fixes it.Large BGE as of Father's day '12 http://www.jwhit.com

Maybe you should loosen all the nuts and make sure you lower band is sitting as low as it can go on the egg base. Also make sure the upper band is as far up as it can go on the dome.

If that does not work try taking the springs off the hinges.
-
And if that does not work call in a exorcist.

first, i would check the spring bolts, if they lean in and are not perpendicular to the bracet, tighten them. second i would get a level, third i would check the springs them selves as ive replaced a cracked one. now ive only seen this a couple times over the years, the hinge was installed upsidedown, the flat section should be on top
fukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it -
You may need new hinge springs. Springs and lose tension. They should be covered under warranty.

Tightened all the screws/bolts on the bands. Seems to have fixed the problem. I'll know for sure in the AM since I plan on cooking my first brisket on my BGE.Large BGE as of Father's day '12 http://www.jwhit.com
